Women’s Golf Team Wins Small College Invitational Posted on September 14th, 2003 by

The Gustavus women’s golf team defeated MIAC rival St. Thomas by 10 strokes to claim the team title at their own Small College Invitational this past weekend. Gustie junior Kelsey Getz won the individual title with a 36-hole total of 80-84-164. The tournament was played at Lakeside Golf Club in Waseca, Minnesota. Coach Wayne Norman’s squad won the early battle for the top spot in the region rankings as they picked up head-to-head wins over highly rated teams from St. Thomas and Simpson. Getz paced the Gusties with her solid effort of 80-84-164. Katie Aplin also had a strong tournament as she finished second at 79-86–165. Other Gusties contributing to the effort included Erin Schliep at 85-83-168, Kelli Groff at 90-85–175, Steph Polzin at 91-91-182 and Alana Reetz at 90-94–184. Three Gustavus players competed individually in the tournament including Breanne Staples with a score of 87-86–173, Stina Dannberg with a score of 92-84–176 and Andrea Nelson with a score of 86-90–176.
