Wayne Norman Named Head Women’s Golf Coach Posted on July 16th, 2003 by

Wayne Norman has been named the Head Women’s Golf Coach at Gustavus Adolphus College. Norman takes over Mike Boschee, who left the program after eight years at the helm to assume the head men’s basketball coaching responsibilities at Central College (IA).

Norman is getting his first taste of collegiate coaching, but is no stranger to Gustavus athletics. He is also beginning his sixth year as the Athletic Equipment Coordinator. Norman is the seventh head coach in the history of the program.

The North Dakota State University graduate received his Bachelor’s degree in Teacher Education in 1983. While conducting graduate work at Colorado State University in 1984, Norman was a graduate teaching assistant teaching golf to beginning and intermediate golfers.

Norman is inheriting a squad that placed seventh at the NCAA Championships last spring. It was the first time in the program’s history to advance to the national level. The Gusties finished second during the fall season at the MIAC Championship.

Top returnees from that squad include all-conference selections Katie Aplin and Kelsey Getz as well as the Minnesota Women’s Collegiate Golf Association’s Freshman of the Year, Erin Schliep.
Coach Norman’s squad reports to campus on August 24 and begins play on August 29 and 30 at the Minnesota State, Mankato Invitational that will be held at the St. James Country Club in St. James, Minnesota.
