Men’s Tennis Garners Four All-Conference Honors

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its men’s tennis postseason awards Wednesday and four Gusties were recognized as All-Conference members. Chase Johnson (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.), Michael O’Neil (Jr., Edina, Minn.), and Patrick Whaling (Sr., Manakin Sabot, Va.) were named to the All-MIAC Singles Team, while Nick Aney (Fy., Rochester, Minn.), Johnson, and Whaling earned All-MIAC Doubles Team honors.

Men’s Tennis Takes Down No. 11 Trinity

The Gustavus men's tennis team continued their spring trip with a victory over No. 11 Trinity (Tex.) 6-3. With the win the Gusties improve to 12-6 on the season. 

All Gustavus Doubles Final Highlights Day Three of ITA Midwest Regional

The ITA Midwest Regional Championship completed all but the singles final on Sunday, with an all Gustavus doubles final highlighting the day. Chase Johnson and Patrick Whaling came out on top in the championship doubles match over fellow teammates Yassine Derbani and Nick Aney by a score of 7-6, 6-2. With the victory, Johnson and Whaling solidified themselves as All-Americans.

Men’s Tennis Upsets No. 3 Chicago 6-3

Six days after suffering a shutout loss to the No. 6-ranked team in the country, the No. 8-ranked Gustavus men’s tennis team upset No. 3 Chicago 6-3 Friday night in a rematch of last season’s NCAA Central Region championship. The Gusties are now 16-8 overall and 7-2 against Division III nationally ranked teams.

Men’s Tennis Earns ITA Academic Awards

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2017 All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday. In all, 720 teams and 3,908 student-athletes across all five divisions of college tennis were honored. The Gustavus men's tennis team earned the All-Academic Team award as well as 10 Gusties earning the Scholar-Athlete award.

Sibling Rivalry Headlines Men’s Tennis Matchup With Middlebury

After coming off a 5-4 upset of the University of Chicago in a NCAA Regional Final match the past weekend, the Gustavus Men's Tennis team looks forward to facing Middlebury College in its first NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal match since 2009 on Monday. First-year Yassine Derbani (Casablanca, Morocco) is especially excited to face the Panthers as his older brother, Hamid, is a senior leader on the Middlebury squad.

Men’s Tennis Earns Seventh-Straight MIAC Playoff Title

The No. 21-ranked Gustavus men's tennis team defeated the University of St. Thomas 5-1 Saturday afternoon at Swanson Tennis Center to claim its 10th overall and seventh-consecutive Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Playoff Championship.

Yassine Derbani Named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete Of The Week

Gustavus men's tennis player Yassine Derbani (Fy., Casablanca, Morocco) played a role in seven of the Gusties' 17 team points last week as Gustavus competed against stiff competition during its spring trip in Texas. Derbani participated in four of the team's six matches, going 3-1 in singles while being undefeated at 4-0 during doubles play, all against ranked opponents.
