Gustavus senior Janey Helland has been named MIAC Field Athlete of the Week for her performance in the pentathlon at the MSU, Mankato Invitational on January 28-29.
Helland, Lundgren Shine As Women’s Track And Field Opens Indoor Season
The Gustavus women's track and field team opened its 2011 indoor season at Minnesota State University, Mankato on Friday and Saturday, January 28-29. The Gusties were led by Janey Helland who won the heptathlon with a NCAA qualifying total of 3,503 points and Megan Lundgren who won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:20.48.
Track and Volleyball Standout Janey Helland Making Most of Student Athlete Experience at Gustavus
As a junior health fitness major, Janey Helland has already accomplished more in three years at Gustavus than many accomplish in four years. Helland has spent her entire collegiate career managing her time between track and field, volleyball and class work while achieving great success in all three phases. Helland embodies the ideal student-athlete and the Division III experience.
Sam Broderius And Janey Helland Record Wins For Women’s Outdoor Track & Field At Manitou Classic
The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team registered 14 top five finishes at the Manitou Track and Field Classic held on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. Sam Broderius and Janey Helland registered individual event wins for Gustavus at the meet. Broderius won the shot put (41’ 4.25”) and Helland won the long jump (17’ 9.75”). No team scores were kept at the meet.
Secor, Helland, and Baker Shine For Women’s Track & Field At Lee Krough Invitational
The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team registered 20 top five finishes and three individual event wins at the Lee Krough Invitational held at the Gustavus Outdoor Track and Field Complex on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. Laura Secor, Janey Helland, and Sarah Baker were the top Gustavus performers at the meet. Secor won the 1500-meter relay (4:49.17), Helland won the long jump (17’ 10.25”), and Baker won high jump (5’ 3”). No team scores were kept at the meet.
Track & Field Set To Host Lee Krough Invitational
The Gustavus men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are set to host the Lee Krough Invitational on Saturday, April 10th, at the Gustavus Track and Field Complex in St. Peter, Minn. Field events are set to begin at 11:00 a.m. Participating schools will include Minnesota State Mankato, Martin Luther, Minnesota Duluth, Saint Mary's, Bethany Lutheran, and Winona State. Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Takes Fourth At Central College Invite
The Gustavus women’s outdoor track and field team got the outdoor season started with a fourth place finish at the Central College Invite on Saturday in Pella, Iowa. The Gusties registered 10 top five finishes for a total of 90.50 points. Individual event winners included Janey Helland in the long jump (18’ 01.75”) and Sam Broderius in the discus throw (137’ 11”).
Max Hanson Places Fifth In 800-Meter Run At 2010 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships
Gustavus Adolphus senior Max Hanson had the top Gustavus finish at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held this weekend at the James A. Hollensteiner Track on the campus of DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. Hanson took first place in his qualifying heat with time of 1:53.87, and later placed fifth in the finals of the race with a time of 1:53.19. Senior Kaelene Lundstrum, the 2010 MIAC Field Athlete of the Meet, finished in eighth place in both the pentathlon (3308) and high jump (5' 5.25").
Women’s Indoor Track & Field Takes First At CSB Quad
The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team compiled 166.5 points to take first place at the College of Saint Benedict Quadrangular held Saturday afternoon in Collegeville, Minn. Kaelene Lundstrum was the top Gustavus performer at the meet, winning the 55-meter hurdles (8.98) and high jump (5’ 3”), while taking fifth in the shot put (38’ 9.75”).
Kaelene Lundstrum Named MIAC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete Of The Week
Gustavus Adolphus senior Kaelene Lundstrum was named MIAC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts at the MSU-Mankato Open over the weekend. Lundstrum took first place in the Pentathon with 3,468 points, setting a new school record and qualifying for the Nationals.
