The Gustavus women's hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Jess Harren and Allie Schwab in the first period and then held on for a 2-1 win over St. Olaf on Saturday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. The Gusties, who are now 3-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in MIAC play, will travel to Northfield to play the Oles tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm.

Former Bemidji State Head Coach Ruthann Kragh Named Assistant Women’s Hockey Coach

Ruthann Kragh, a native of Cheboygan, Mich. and 1996 graduate of Western Michigan University, joins the Gustavus Adolphus Athletics Department as the new assistant women’s hockey coach. She replaces Andrea Peterson who resigned to pursue a teaching career in the Twin Cities.

Melissa Mackley Named One of Two MIAC Nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year

Gustavus Adolphus College senior hockey student-athlete Melissa Mackley has been named as one of two nominees from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Mackley and University of St. Thomas softball player Alison Wright will now wait to hear if they will be chosen as one of ten finalists from Division III, which will be announced in August. The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service, and leadership.

The Gustavus women's hockey team saw its 2009-10 season come to a disappointing end with a 4-1 loss to Elmira College on Saturday afternoon in the third place game of the NCAA Championship Finals, which were held at Don Roberts Ice Rink on the Gustavus campus. Allie Schwab scored the lone goal for the Gusties midway through the second period. Coach Mike Carroll and his squad ended the season with a record of 22-6-2.

The Gustavus women's hockey team saw its dream of winning a national championship on its home ice come to a screeching halt on Friday evening with a 4-0 loss to defending national champion Amherst at Don Roberts Ice Rink on the Gustavus campus. Gustavus will now play Elmira in the third place game on Saturday at 3:30 pm (CDT).

Women’s Hockey Set To Host NCAA Championship Finals This Friday and Saturday

The Gustavus women's hockey team has been selected to host the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship this Friday and Saturday at Don Roberts Ice Rink. Play will begin on Friday when Norwich University of Northfield, Vermont will face Elmira College of Elmira, New York at 3:30 pm in one semifinal matchup followed by Gustavus facing defending national champion Amherst College of Amherst, Massachusetts in the other semifinal at 7:00 pm.
