Women’s Basketball Moves to 5-0 With 75-40 Win Over Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus women's basketball team used a 19-4 run over the final 11 minutes of the first half to break open a tight game and then cruised to a convincing 75-40 win over Saint Mary's in St. Peter on Monday night. First year guard Molly Geske led a balanced Gustie scoring attack with 12 points. Coach Mickey Haller's team improves to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC.

Women’s Basketball Stays Undefeated With 71-60 Win Over Concordia

The Gustavus women's basketball continued its winning ways with a convincing 71-60 win over Concordia College at Gus Young Court on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties dominated from the perimeter as Molly Geske (21), Emily Nelson (20), and Julia Schultz (14) scored 55 of the team's 71 points. Gustavus made 10-of-15 shots from behind the arc including 7-of-10 in the second half.

Big Second Half Propels Women’s Basketball Team to 77-53 Win Over Carleton

The Gustavus women's basketball team used a 17-0 run at the start of the second half to pull away from Carleton and post a 24-point win over the Knights, 77-53 in St. Peter. The Gusties, who improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC, were led by Katie Layman with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Coach Mickey Haller's squad will remain home and host Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

Women’s Basketball Opens With 79-64 Win Over Austin College

The Gustavus women's basketball team opened its 2008-09 season with a 79-64 win over Austin College at the Austin/Southwestern Thanksgiving Classic in Sherman, Texas. Junior post Katie Layman led the Gusties with 28 points including 11-of-16 shooting from the field. Gustavus will play Southwestern University on Saturday at 1:00 pm (CST).

Women’s Basketball Moves To 2-0 With 69-56 Win Over Southwestern University

The Gustavus women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 69-56 win over Southwestern University at Austin College in Sherman, Texas on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back on their way to a 13-point victory. Three Gustavus players scored in double figures including Emily Nelson and Molly Mathiowetz with 12 points and Bri Radtke with 11.

Great Blend Of Experience And Youth Has Coach Mickey Haller Excited About 2008-09 Women’s Basketball Team

The Gustavus women's basketball team will open its 2008-09 season in Sherman, Texas over Thanksgiving weekend with games against Austin College and Southwestern University. Coach Mickey Haller is excited about the blend of youth and experience on this team and she is confident that this team has the work ethic and team chemistry to develop into a group that can help the Gusties qualify for a spot in the MIAC Playoffs for the ninth straight year.

Women’s Basketball Falls 59-47 In Exhibition Match Against Dakota Wesleyan

The Gustavus women's basketball team played Dakota Wesleyan University in an exhibition match at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota on Tuesday night. The Tigers rallied in the second half to defeat the Gusties 59-47. Gustavus led by eight at the half (31-23), Dakota Wesleyan outscored the Gusties 36-16 in the final 20 minutes to win the exhibition game by 12 points. Katie Layman and Emily Nelson both scored 10 points to lead Gustavus.

Women’s Basketball Team Named To WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll

The Gustavus women's basketball team ranked 25th on the 2007-2008 NCAA Division III Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll released by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Tuesday. The Gusties posted a team grade-point average of 3.375, just three-hundredths behind MIAC member Augsburg, which finished 18th. The award recognizes teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the 2007-2008 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.

Jess Vadnais Receives Honorable Mention Honors on WBCA/State Farm All-America Team

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association and State Farm released its 2007-08 Division III All-America Team on Friday afternoon and Gustavus senior guard Jess Vadnais received honorable mention honors after being named a WBCA/Kodak All-American last year. Katelyn Whiton of Simpson College was the only All-America selection from the West Region.

Jess Vadnais Named A Finalist for WBCA/State Farm All-America Women’s Basketball Team

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), has announced the finalists for the 2008 WBCA/State Farm All-America Basketball Team for Division III of the NCAA. The 40 finalists, which includes Gustavus standout Jess Vadnais, are now in the running for selection to the 10-member Kodak/WBCA All-America Team. The teams are selected by WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions.
