The Gustavus women’s basketball team enters the 2005-06 season with optimism as three starters and 11 letterwinners return from a squad that posted a record of 18-8 overall and finished fifth in the MIAC with a mark of 13-7.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2004-05 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll and Gustavus ranked seventh in NCAA Division III with a 3.497 team grade point average. York College (PA) finished first in the rankings with a 3.725 team GPA.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team will play Saint Mary’s University in the first round of the MIAC Playoffs on Monday night in Winona, Minn. You can listen to the game via the Saint Mary’s website.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team led by as many as 12 points during the second half, but Augsburg countered with a 20-8 run during an eight-minute span in the second half en route to winning 69-65 in St. Peter Saturday afternoon.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team lost to Saint Mary’s 61-55 on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter. Bri Monahan led the Gusties in scoring with 17 points, while Kristin Kachelymyer and Jess Vadnais each added 11 points.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team was outscored 23-16 in the final 7:55 of the game en route to a 62-49 loss to Carleton, the undefeated leader in the MIAC. Gustavus’ Bri Monahan and Kristin Kachelmyer each recorded double-doubles against Carleton.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team had its 25-game home winning streak snapped Wednesday night when St. Ben’s beat the Gusties 67-50 in St. Peter at Gus Young Court. Gustavus’ Jess Vadnais led the Gusties with 12 points.

Gustavus Adolphus College first year guard Jess Vadnais (Hudson, Wis.) was named the MIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 10-16. Vadnais averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game last week.

The Gustavus women’s basketball team lost to Washington University 68-53 in the championship game of the McWilliams Classic hosted by Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Bri Monahan led the Gusties in scoring with 20 points.
