Gustavus Volleyball Wins UW-Eau Claire Tournament, First 4-0 Start Since 1987
The Gustavus volleyball took first place at the Blugold Tournament in Eau Claire, Wisconsin by defeating UM-Morris and UW-River Falls 3-0 Saturday afternoon. Senior outside hitter Jennifer Thelemann (Le Sueur, Minn.) and junior setter Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) were named to the eight-member all-tournament team.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball coaches recently released their 2006 Post-Season Awards and three Gustavus players were honored for their outsanding play over the past season. Junior Andrea Kron and Jen Thelemann were named to the all-conference team, while sophomore Emily Klein was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

The Gustavus volleyball team continued its storybook season with a 3-2 win over St. Ben’s on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court in St. Peter. The Gusties won the decisive fifth game 15-8 to claim the important conference win. Emily Klein set a school record for digs in a match with 46.

The Gustavus volleyball team suffered its first conference defeat of the season on Wednesday night losing to St. Thomas in St. Paul 3-1. The game scores were 24-30, 30-23, 21-30, and 24-30. The Gusties are now 15-7 overall and 6-1 in the MIAC.

The Gustavus volleyball team dropped two matches on the second day of the Border Battle Tournament hosted by Coe College In Cedar Rapids, IA. The Gusties lost to Simpson 3-2 on Saturday morning and then fell to the University of Dubuque 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
