Softball Team Sees Title Hopes Disappear With Two Heartbreaking Losses To St. Thomas

The Gustavus softball team battled valiantly to defend its MIAC regular season title, but St. Thomas wrestled the title away from the Gusties with a 1-0 win in game one and a 5-3 win in 11 innnings in game two. The Tommies improved to 30-6 overall and 17-1 in the MIAC, while the Gusties dropped to 21-10 overall and 14-4 in the MIAC.

The Gustavus softball team’s doubleheader with St. Thomas postponed on Saturday, April 24 at 1:00 pm at Gustavus and re-scheduled for Sunday, April 25 has been postponed again and re-scheduled for Tuesday, April 27 at 4 pm at Gustavus.

Men’s Tennis Defeats St. Thomas and Bethel, Clinches At Least Share Of MIAC Title

The Gustavus men's tennis team defeated St. Thomas 7-2 in the morning inside the Swanson Tennis Center and then moved outside in the afternoon and defeated Bethel 9-0 on the Brown Outdoor Courts. With the two league wins, the Gusties improved to 8-0 in MIAC play and clinched at least a share of the conference title with one match remaining next Saturday against St. Olaf.

Women’s Tennis Defeats St. Thomas 8-1

The Gustavus women's tennis team improved to 5-0 in conference play with an 8-1 victory over St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn.

Baseball Splits With #1 St. Thomas

The Gustavus baseball team got a big doubleheader split with #1 St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties won game one 5-4 in extra innings on an RBI base hit by Tim Miller that scored Andrew Woitas for the win. The Tommies rebounded in game two, defeating Gustavus decisively 10-2. Gustavus goes to 10-11 overall and 3-4 in the MIAC, while St. Thomas moves to 19-4 overall and 6-3 in the MIAC.

Men’s Hockey Edges St. Thomas 3-1 in NCAA Tournament Play

The Gustavus men's hockey team opened NCAA Tournament play with an exciting 3-1 win over St. Thomas in St. Peter on Wednesday night. The Gusties (20-6-2) will now play St. Norbert (22-3-3) on Saturday night in DePere, Wis. for a chance to advance to the NCAA Tournament Finals in Lake Placid, New York.

The Gustavus men's hockey team will make its second consecutive tournament appearance when it hosts familiar foe St. Thomas in a NCAA First Round Tournament game on Wednesday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink at 7:00 pm. The Gusties, who won the MIAC Regular Season title, received an at-large bid to the tournament, while St. Thomas, which knocked off the Gusties 2-1 in overtime last Wednesday to win the MIAC Playoff title received an automatic bid to the tournament.

Women’s Indoor Track & Field Finishes Runner-Up At 2010 MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

The Gustavus women’s indoor track and field team went into the final day of competition at the 2010 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a narrow one point lead over defending MIAC Champion St. Thomas. The Gusties could not hold the advantage on Saturday, as St. Thomas tallied 78 points, bringing it’s total to 158, and edging Gustavus by 28 points as the Gusties finished with a total of 130 points to place second.
