Men’s Tennis Goes 3-0 Against Morningside, Bethel, and St. Olaf

The Gustavus men's tennis team had a busy day on Saturday as it played two matches against Morningside and St. Olaf at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter and Bethel in St. Paul. The Gusties defeated Bethel and the Oles by identical 8-1 scores and Morningside 9-0. Gustavus improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in league play.

The Gustavus men's basketball team went on a decisive 31-2 run in the first half en route to clinching its ninth consecutive berth in the MIAC Playoffs after a 74-55 win against St. Olaf on Wednesday in St. Peter. For the first twenty minutes, the Gusties were nearly perfect on the offensive end shooting 65.4 percent, while holding the Oles to just 28.6 percent. Phil Wirtjes and Robert Schmidt contributed 14 points each in the victory for Gustavus.

The Gustavus women's basketball team, which had its four-game winning streak snapped by Hamline last Saturday, jumped right back on the winning track on Wednesday night with a convincing 66-42 win at St. Olaf. Emily Nelson led all Gustavus in scoring with 18 points. The Gusties improved to 15-7 overall and 13-6 in the MIAC with the victory.

Second Half Surge Helps Men’s Basketball Pick Up 81-64 Win Against St. Olaf

The Gustavus men's basketball team used a 16-3 run early in the second half to help the Gusties pick up an impressive 81-64 win over St. Olaf 81-64 in Northfield on Wednesday night. Head Coach Mark Hanson's squad turned in a strong offensive performance, shooting 52.9 percent on 27-for-52 from the field. Gustavus, which reached the .500 mark at 5-5 overall and 4-1 in the MIAC, were led by Jesse Van Sickle with 16 points.

The Gustavus men's hockey team allowed two short-handed goals in the third period as St. Olaf defeated the Gusties 3-2 on Saturday at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn. Ole goaltender Nick Krauss kept St. Olaf in the contest, making 33 saves, until the Oles tallied two short-handed goals on consecutive Gustavus power plays to earn the series sweep. The Gusties dropped to 5-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the MIAC standings, while St. Olaf moved to 6-2-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference.

Men’s Hockey Loses To St. Olaf 4-3

The Gustavus men's hockey team fell to St. Olaf 4-3 on Friday night in Northfield when Barrett Simons scored the game-winning goal with 2:06 remaining in the contest. The Gusties held a 2-0 lead midway through the first period, but the Oles scored the next three goals before Eric Bigham tied the score at 3-3 in the third period. Football Drops 27-20 Double Overtime Heartbreaker To St. Olaf

The Gustavus football team was unable to get into the end zone on first-and-goal in the second overtime period as the Gusties suffered a heartbreaking 27-20 loss to St. Olaf in Northfield on Saturday. John Ostertag kicked a 25-yard field goal with 3:02 left in the game to give Gustavus the 20-13 lead, but the Oles forced overtime with a Ryan St. John 10-yard touchdown catch with 00:36 on the clock. Gustavus, which had its four-game winning streak snapped, dropped to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC.

Football Looks To Stay In Playoff Chase Against St. Olaf On Saturday

Gustavus will take on St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest. The Gusties come in to the game at 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC and in a four-way tie for first-place in the conference standings. The Oles enter the contest at 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the league. Last week, Gustavus defeated Bethel University 17-10 in Arden Hills behind four interceptions by the Gustie defense.

Women’s Soccer Defeats St. Olaf 1-0

The Gustavus women's soccer team defeated the Oles from St. Olaf College 1-0 on a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. Christy Tupy scored her fourth goal of the season in the 26th minute when she one-touched a pass from Chelsea Craven into the left corner beating Ole goalkeeper Elizabeth Huggins. Ashley Ohlson got the win in goal for the Gusties. With the victory, Gustavus improves to 6-7-2 (4-4-1 in the MIAC), while St. Olaf drops to 7-7-1 (4-3-1 in the MIAC).
