The Gustavus men's basketball team held off a late charge by the visiting Saint Mary's Cardinals and remained undefeated in league play with a 80-77 win. Jesse Van Sickle led the Gusties with 22 points. Gustavus is now 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the MIAC.
Phil Wirtjes Hits 50-Foot Shot At The Buzzer To Give Men’s Basketball The 57-54 Overtime Victory Over Concordia
Gustavus Adolphus junior guard Phil Wirtjes hit a half court shot with less than one second to play, giving the Gusties a 57-54 victory over Concordia on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. Wirtjes finished the game with six points as the Gusties were led in scoring by Ryan McPartland who went 8-12 from the field for 17 points.
Offense Keeps Rolling As Men’s Basketball Defeats Hamline 82-64
The Gustavus men's basketball team shot over 50 percent for the third straight game to help the Gusties defeat Hamline 82-64 in St. Paul on Saturday afternoon. Head Coach Mark Hanson's squad went 26-for-47 from the floor for 55.3 percent, while holding the Pipers to 45.7 percent on 21-for-46 shooting. Ryan McPartland led Gustavus with a career-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. The Gusties improved to 6-5 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC, while Hamline dropped to 3-9 overall and 2-6 in league play.
