McPartland And Wirtjes Named To 2009-10 All-Conference Team

Gustavus Adolphus senior Ryan McPartland and junior Phil Wirtjes were named to the 2010 MIAC All-Conference team on Thursday afternoon. St. Thomas’s Tyler Nicolai was named MIAC Player of the Year, as Augsburg Head Coach Aaron Griess was named MIAC Coach of the Year. Senior Jesse Van Sickle was named Honorable Mention All-Conference and is a member of the 2010 All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

The Gustavus men’s basketball team secured the number two seed in the MIAC Playoffs with a 79-74 victory over Saint John’s on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. Gustavus had four players in double figure scoring, as Jesse Van Sickle scored 14 points, Sam Paulson scored 13, and Tyler Grey scored 12. Ryan McPartland registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Gustavus men’s basketball team suffered a 75-51 loss at the hands of first place St. Thomas on Wednesday night in the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia University in St. Paul. The Tommies shot 57.4% (31-54) in the game, while Gustavus shot just 36.4% (20-55). St. Thomas’s Sam Eicher (6-7) and Joe Scott (5-9) both scored a game-high 14-points in the game, as Ryan McPartland (5-6) led Gustavus with 10 points.

Men’s Basketball Defeats Augsburg In Overtime 77-72

The Gustavus men's basketball team got it's fourth straight MIAC win on Wednesday night in Minneapolis, Minn., with a 77-72 overtime victory over Augsburg. Two free throws by Phil Wirtjes with three seconds left in regulation would send the game into overtime. The Gusties would then go on to shoot 4-4 from the field and 9-13 from the line in overtime, giving them the five-point victory. Seth Anderson and Ryan McPartland led all scorers with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
