Softball Doubleheader with St. Scholastica Postponed to Sunday
Due to inclement weather, Friday night's season-opening softball doubleheader between Gustavus and the College of St. Scholastica at the Rosemount Irish Dome has been postponed. The games have been moved to Sunday, March 4 at the Rosemount Dome with game one getting underway at noon.
Gymnastics Opens Season With 167.450-167.000 Win Over UW-Stout
The Gustavus Adolphus gymnastics team opened their season Monday with a 167.450-167.000 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual win over University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Gusties led by nearly four points after the first rotation but survived a pair of 9+ scores by the Blue Devils on the balance beam to secure the win. Gustavus will take part in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Invitational Friday night.
Nordic Skiing Competes in Season Opener
The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic skiing team opened their 2006-07 season last weekend at the Grand View Cross Country Ski Challenge in Ironwood, Mich. Kathleen DeWahl led the Gustie women with an 11th place finish in the women's open division of Saturday's 1K freestyle sprint and a 17th place finish in Sunday's 5K classical race. Elias Anoszko led the Gustie men with a 12th place finish in the Olympic Juniors division of Saturday's sprint, while Scott Kyser finished 55th in Sunday's 10K classical race.
Nordic Skiing Opens Season This Weekend in Michigan
The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski team will open its season this weekend at the Grand View Cross Country Ski Challenge at Wolverine Nordic Ski Club near Ironwood, Mich. Saturday's action will feature a 1-kilometer freestyle sprint at nearby Big Powderhorn Mountain, while Sunday's races will feature a 5-kilometer women's classic race and a 10-kilometer men's classic race, both at Wolverine Ski Trail.
Men’s Basketball Posts 76-68 Win Over Luther in Season Opener
The Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team opened their season with a 76-68 victory over Luther College Saturday afternoon in Decorah, Iowa. The Gusties had three players score in double-figures, led by Trevor Wittwer with 12. Luther's Austin Bildstein led all players in scoring with 20. The Gusties will open the home schedule Tuesday against Buena Vista University.
Women’s Hockey Takes MIAC Opener from Concordia 3-2
The Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey team scored a pair of third-period goals to post a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Concordia-Moorhead Friday night at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. It was the MIAC opener for both schools. Stefanie Ubl recorded the game-winner for Gustavus (2-1-0, 1-0-0 MIAC), who will host the Cobbers (1-1-1, 0-1-0 MIAC) again on Saturday afternoon.
Men’s Hockey Takes MIAC Opener at Concordia 2-1 for First Win of Season
The Gustavus Adolphus men's hockey team put their first mark in the win column for the 2006-07 season with a 2-1 victory over Concordia-Moorhead Friday night in Moorhead. Jon Keseley and Kyle Rohlfs each lit the lamp once for the Gusties, who improve to 1-3-1 overall, 1-0-0 in the MIAC. The teams will play again Saturday afternoon.
Men’s Basketball Opens at Luther Saturday; Hosts Buena Vista Tuesday
The Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team opens the 2006-07 season Saturday afternoon when it faces Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The Gusties open the home portion of the schedule next Tuesday evening, Nov. 21 when they host Buena Vista University of Storm Lake, Iowa. Both games are non-conference tilts.
Women’s Hockey Falls to UW-Stevens Point in Season Opener 5-4
UW-Stevens Point scored three goals in the game's first seven minutes and added two others in the second period to hand the Gustavus Adolphus women's hockey team a 5-4 loss Saturday afternoon at Stevens Point, Wis. Margaret Dorer scored two goals and an assist to lead Gustavus. It was the season opener for the Gusties who will host UW-Superior on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
Football Tripped Up By St. Thomas in MIAC Opener 21-7
The Gustavus Adolphus football team saw its 2006 record evened at 1-1 with a 21-7 loss to St. Thomas Saturday at Hollingsworth Field in St. Peter. The Tommies outgained the Gusties 255-181 overall, including 184-57 on the ground. St. Thomas also forced four Gustavus turnovers in the MIAC opener for both schools. The Gusties (1-1, 0-1 MIAC) travel to Hamline for a MIAC matchup next weekend.
