Rice, Sharbono Named December Student-Athletes Of The Month

Women's basketball player Miranda Rice (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) and men's basketball player Riley Sharbono (Jr., Marshall, Minn.) have been selected as the Gustavus Adolphus College December Female and Male Student-Athletes-of-the-Month, presented by Thrivent Financial and voted on by the Gustavus Sports Information Department.

In a battle of nationally ranked women’s basketball teams, No. 17 Gustavus was unable to complete a fourth quarter comeback, losing 68-60 to No. 11 UW-Whitewater on Friday at the Wartburg Holiday Tournament. The Gusties got within two points of the lead with two minutes remaining in the contest after trailing by as many as 19, but the Warhawks closed out the game at the free throw line in the waning moments to remain perfect (10-0) on the season. Gustavus falls to 8-2 overall.

Women’s Basketball Cruises To 79-45 Win Over Coe

The Gustavus women’s basketball team wrapped up a six-game home stand Friday evening with a convincing 79-45 win over Coe College in non-conference action. The win moves the Gusties to 8-1 overall while Coe drops to 3-8.

Women’s Basketball Drops Ranked Matchup 74-66 To St. Thomas

The Gustavus women’s basketball team lost its first game of the season 74-66 to St. Thomas on Wednesday evening. The Tommies used a 29-11 advantage in the second quarter to create separation and fended off a second half comeback to secure the win in a match of nationally ranked teams. No. 12 Gustavus drops to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the MIAC, while No. 11 St. Thomas improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the league.

The No. 16-ranked Gustavus women’s basketball team squeaked out a 67-59 home-opening victory against UW-La Crosse on Tuesday night at Gus Young Court. The Gusties held a slim three-point lead with 1:16 remaining in the game, but held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way to move to 2-0 on the season.

Women’s Basketball Holds Off Buena Vista 80-73 In Season Opener

The No. 16 ranked Gustavus women’s basketball team started the season on the right foot Wednesday, defeating Buena Vista University 80-73. The Gusties erased a first half deficit and held off the Beavers down the stretch, making 7-of-8 free throws in the final 23 seconds of the game.
