Men’s Tennis Posts Wins Over Luther, UW-Whitewater; Advances to NCAA Quarterfinals

The Gustavus Adolphus College men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships Sunday with a 6-0 win over Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Gusties will face Williams (Mass.) Tuesday, May 15 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in suburban St. Louis, Mo. Washington University in St. Louis is the host institution. Individual competition in singles and doubles will follow team competition at each site May 18-20.

Men’s Basketball Posts 76-68 Win Over Luther in Season Opener

The Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team opened their season with a 76-68 victory over Luther College Saturday afternoon in Decorah, Iowa. The Gusties had three players score in double-figures, led by Trevor Wittwer with 12. Luther's Austin Bildstein led all players in scoring with 20. The Gusties will open the home schedule Tuesday against Buena Vista University.

Men’s Basketball Opens at Luther Saturday; Hosts Buena Vista Tuesday

The Gustavus Adolphus men's basketball team opens the 2006-07 season Saturday afternoon when it faces Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The Gusties open the home portion of the schedule next Tuesday evening, Nov. 21 when they host Buena Vista University of Storm Lake, Iowa. Both games are non-conference tilts.

Women’s Soccer Picks Up 2-1 Nonconference Win Over Luther

The Gustavus Adolphus women's soccer team opened the month of October with a 2-1 road nonconference win over Luther Sunday in Decorah, Iowa. The Gusties, who improve to 4-5-2 overall, were led by senior Amy Larson, who provided a goal and an assist, and Jenna Iaizzo, who added a goal. The Gusties are off until Saturday when they host Macalester.

Women’s Basketball Falls to Luther, 83-51

The Gustavus women's basketball team fell to 1-1 on the season following a 83-51 loss to Luther College Friday at the UW-Eau Claire Thanksgiving Showcase. Luther broke a 20-20 tie with a 19-2 run to take a 39-22 lead with 2:18 to play in 1st half. The Gusties got no closer than 11 in the second half. Junior post Bri Monahan led the Gusties with 16 points. Gustavus will face St. Scholastica in the consolation game at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 26.

Women’s Soccer Outlasts Luther 2-0

The Gustavus women's soccer team saw their five game losing streak fall by the wayside Sunday with a 2-0 non-conference win over Luther. Samantha Engh got the Gusties on the board in the eighth minute, scoring on a header off a Liz Petersen corner kick. Amy Larson would add an insurance goal in the 82nd minute, scoring off a breakaway for her fourth goal of the year. Gustavus improves to 4-7 on the season and will return to MIAC play on Friday night when they play Macalester under the lights in St. Paul.

Bousu Nets Three As Men’s Soccer Downs Luther 5-1

Senior forward Caleb Bousu tallied three goals to lead the Gustavus men's soccer team to a 5-1 non-conference win over Luther on Sunday in St. Peter. Junior Alex Groth added a goal and an assist for the Gusties, who improved to 7-1-2 overall. Gustavus returns to MIAC play on Saturday afternoon when they host 4-0 Macalester for Homecoming. The Scots are ranked 20th nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Volleyball Downs Luther 3-0

The Gustavus volleyball team picked up their sixth straight victory Friday night defeating the Luther College Norse 30-28, 30-27, 30-22 at the Bethany Lutheran College Triangular in Mankato. Sophomore Andrea Kron (Cold Spring, Minn.) led the Gusties offensively with 15 kills on 35 attacks. The Gusties, now 7-3 on the season, will face Bethany Lutheran at 1 p.m. in Mankato to conclude the triangular.
