Cash, Nelson, Swenson Earn WGCA All-America Scholar Honor
The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars were announced today and three Gustavus women’s golfers are recognized with the honor – Kristen Cash (So., Roseville, Minn.), McKenzie Swenson (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.), and Jessica Nelson (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.). The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
Five Gusties Named MIAC Women’s Hockey All-Conference
The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its women’s hockey postseason awards Monday afternoon and five Gusties were named All-Conference. Diana Draayer (Sr., Deephaven, Minn.), Kaitlyn Klein (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), Erica Power (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.), Kristen Cash (So., Roseville, Minn.), and Amanda DiNella (Jr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.) received All-MIAC recognition for their performances throughout the 2017-18 regular season.
Déjà Vu, Women’s Hockey Blanks St. Kate’s 3-0, Clinches Playoff Berth
New day, same story. For the second straight game the Gustavus women’s hockey team Saturday shut out St. Catherine 3-0 to complete the series sweep and clinch a spot in the MIAC playoffs. With their third consecutive shutout, the Gusties improve to 15-2-4 overall and 9-2-3 in the MIAC, while the Wildcats drop to 6-14-1 overall and 5-8-1 in the league.
Women’s Hockey And Augsburg Skate To 1-1 Draw
The No. 5-ranked Gustavus women’s hockey team erased a one-goal deficit in the third period Friday and skated to a 1-1 overtime draw against Augsburg. The tie moves the Gusties to 11-2-3 overall and 5-2-2 in the MIAC, while the Auggies move to 9-4-3 overall and 4-2-3 in the league.
Women’s Hockey Blanks St. Norbert 3-0
The No. 5-ranked Gustavus women’s hockey team got back to game action Friday night after 27 days off since its last competition, shutting out St. Norbert 3-0 to improve to 9-1-1 overall. A power play goal in the first period proved to be the game-winner and the Gusties added two insurance goals in the second for the three-goal decision.
