Bridget Burtzel and Emily Klein Awarded All-Region Volleyball Honors

Gustavus volleyball players Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) and Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Team for the 2008 season. Both players earned all-conference honors, while Klein was also named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. Burtzel and Klein are now eligible for All-America honors.

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball coaches released their 2008 Post-Season Awards Wednesday, November 5 and honored three Gustavus volleyball players for their play this season. Bridget Burtzel (Sr., Cold Spring, Minn.) and Emily Klein (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) were named to the 18-member squad, while Klein was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive year.

Klein, Thelemann, and Burtzel Honored By MIAC Volleyball Coaches

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball coaches released their 2007 Post-Season Awards Wednesday, October 31 and honored three Gustavus volleyball players for their play this season. Emily Klein (Jr., Red Wing, Minn.) and Jennifer Thelemann (Sr., Le Sueur, Minn.) were named to the 18-member squad, while Klein was named Tri-MIAC Defensive Player of the Year. Bridget Burtzel (Jr., Cold Spring, Minn.) was named to the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Softball Extends Win Streak To 18, Sweeps Saint Mary’s 2-0, 3-2

The Gustavus softball team swept Saint Mary's by scores of 2-0 and 3-2 on Thursday afternoon in St. Peter to extend its winning streak to 16 games. The Gusties are now 22-2 overall and 12-0 in the MIAC. Leading the way for the Gusties was senior pitcher Joyce DeWitz who pitched two complete games and allowed just nine hits while striking out 13. Julie Mahre and Emily Klien sparked the Gustie offensive attack as each player had three hits in the doubleheader.

Klein Named MIAC Setter/Libero of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College freshman libero Emily Klein (Red Wing, Minn.) has been named MIAC Setter/Libero of the Week for the week ending September 25. In wins over Augsburg and St. Kate's and a loss to Carleton, Klein had 43 digs, 4.78 digs per game and only 2 reception errors. In game one against Augsburg, Emily served 12 straight points near the end of the game to give Gustavus their largest margin of victory in a game this season.
