The Gustavus softball team's non-conference doubleheader vs. UW-Stout today has been cancelled with no make-up date. The Gusties next travel to Carleton on Saturday for a 1 p.m. MIAC doubleheader.
After a brief downpour delayed play for more than an hour Monday, the Gustavus softball team finished off game one with a 5-2 victory over St. Olaf and completed the sweep with a 3-0 decision, improving to 20-10 overall and 11-5 in the MIAC.
The Gustavus softball team’s Sunday home doubleheader against St. Olaf has been postponed to 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Gustie Softball Field. Fans who cannot make the game can follow online with live video and stats.
Saturday’s MIAC softball doubleheader in St. Paul features the league’s top two teams in No. 1 St. Thomas and No. 2 Gustavus. The Gusties enter with an 18-8 overall record and 9-3 mark in the MIAC, while the No. 13 nationally ranked Tommies enter at 27-5 overall and 14-2 in the league. Tomorrow’s doubleheader at South Field begins at 1 p.m.
Due to expected rain throughout the day Wednesday, both the Gustavus baseball and softball home doubleheaders have been postponed. Baseball’s originally scheduled 2:30 p.m. game against Macalester has been postponed to tomorrow - same time and same place - while softball’s originally scheduled 3:30 p.m. game against St. Catherine has been postponed to Sunday, May 1 starting at 1 p.m.
The Gustavus softball team earned its second consecutive sweep Saturday, defeating Saint Mary’s 2-1 and 5-1 to improve to 18-8 overall and 9-3 in the MIAC, which is good for second place in the league standings.
The Gustavus softball team on Thursday swept Macalester 4-2 and 8-7 in extra innings to improve to 16-8 overall and 7-3 in the MIAC, while the Scots drop to 9-17 overall and 2-6 in the league.
The Gustavus softball team hosted its home opener Wednesday and came away with a split against Augsburg. Hannah Heacox (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) threw a no-hitter in a five-inning 8-0 victory, but the Gusties dropped the nightcap 3-0. Gustavus moves to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC, while the Auggies move to 15-11 overall and 4-4 in the league.
Gustavus ace Hannah Heacox (Stillwater, Minn.) continued her brilliant start to the 2016 conference season in a sweep over Saint Benedict. The junior pitcher was the winner in both games, allowing just two earned runs (0.93 ERA) on 17 hits and one walk with 14 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched, including an outstanding eight-inning relief performance to help her team rally for a 10-inning win. For her performance the MIAC sports information directors honored Heacox Monday with her second-straight MIAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week award.
The Gustavus softball team continues to roll through its MIAC schedule Tuesday as it travels to St. Paul for a doubleheader against Hamline beginning at 3:30 p.m. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for last Wednesday, but was postponed due to inclement weather. The Gusties enter the contests with a 12-6 overall record and 3-1 mark in the MIAC, while the Pipers are 11-7 overall and 4-0 in the league.
