Steinwand Awarded Prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced its 2018 spring sports postgraduate scholarship winners and recently graduated Gustavus men’s tennis player Gabe Steinwand (Moorhead, Minn.) was one of 29 student-athletes out of all three divisions to receive the prestigious scholarship.

The collegiate career of Gustavus men’s tennis ace Mohanad Alhouni (Sr., Tripoli, Libya) came to a close Friday at the NCAA Singles Championships. In the quarterfinal round, Alhouni lost 6-3, 6-2 to Bowdoin’s Grant Urken, finishing his senior season with a 29-9 singles record.

Alhouni Advances To NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Quarterfinals, Falls In Doubles With Whaling

Mohanad Alhouni (Sr., Tripoli, Libya) and Patrick Whaling (Jr., Manakin Sabot, Va.) competed in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Individual Championships on Thursday and came out with mixed results. Alhouni won his first two singles matches to advance to the national quarterfinals, while he and Whaling lost in the first round of the doubles tournament.

Men’s Tennis Upset By Whitman In NCAA Region Championship

In a match that lasted four hours, visiting Whitman College pulled off a 5-4 upset over the Gustavus men’s tennis team Saturday at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Complex, capturing the NCAA region championship and advancing to the national quarterfinals for the first time since 1988. The No. 6-ranked Gusties jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles and won the first singles match, but the No. 20-ranked Blues won at Nos. 1, 3, and 6 before the clincher at No. 5.

Men’s Tennis Blanks Grinnell 5-0 To Open NCAA Championships

The No. 6-ranked Gustavus men’s tennis team made quick work of Grinnell in a NCAA Division III second round match, winning 5-0 at the Swanson Tennis Center. The Gusties got off to a slow start in doubles, but were able to rebound for the sweep followed by swift wins at Nos. 1 and 3 singles.

The NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Committee has selected the individuals who will compete in the singles and doubles competition of the 2018 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships and two Gusties have been chosen - Mohanad Alhouni (Sr., Tripoli, Libya) in singles, and Patrick Whaling (Jr., Manakin Sabot, Va.) will pair with Alhouni in doubles.

Men’s Tennis Selected To Host NCAA Regional This Weekend

The NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Committee has selected the 43 teams that will compete in the 2018 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championships. Gustavus Adolphus College will host a six-team regional Thursday, May 10-Saturday, May 12 at the Swanson Tennis Center.
