Women’s Hockey Impressive in 5-1 Win Over Plattsburgh, Advances to First Ever NCAA Title Game

The Gustavus Adolphus College women's hockey team defeated Plattsburgh State 5-1 in an NCAA Division III semifinal game on Friday afternoon at Middlebury College, advancing to the national championship game tomorrow night.

The Gustavus women's hockey team, making its ninth Frozen Four appearance, is set to take on Plattsburgh State today at 3 p.m. EST at Middlebury College. The Gusties enter the national semifinal with a 24-3-2 overall record after defeating UW-River Falls 5-3 in the quarterfinals, while the defending national champion Cardinals are 25-2-1 overall after beating Colby College 3-2 in overtime.

Kayla Vrieze (Sr., Eagan) of Gustavus women's hockey is the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Championship, which was announced Thursday by the NCAA.

Gustavus senior defender Kayla Vrieze (Eagan) on Thursday earned West First Team honors on the CCM/AHCA Women's Division III All-America Hockey Team. 

Softball Splits with Bethany Lutheran

Playing for the first time in more than two weeks, the Gustavus softball team Wednesday split a non-conference doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran at the MSU-Mankato Dome, moving to 2-4 overall. The Gusties won game one 8-2 before dropping the nightcap 5-4. 

Aney Named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Nick Aney (Sr., Rochester) helped the Gusties to an 8-1 victory over Luther on Saturday with points at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. Aney won his singles match with scores of 7-6, 6-3 and teamed with partner Alex Budde for an 8-3 victory at top doubles against the region's No. 4-ranked tandem. For his performance, Aney has been named MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

Potockova Named MIAC Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Simona Potockova (Sr., Nova' Dubnica, Slovakia) won all four of her matches on Sunday as the Gusties defeated regional opponents UW-Eau Claire and Luther.

Women’s Track & Field Earns Three All-America Honors at NCAA Indoor Championships

The Gustavus women's track & field team sent three individuals to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday and all three came home All-Americans. 

Women’s Hockey Advances to NCAA Semifinals, Wins 5-3 at UW-River Falls

Gustavus women's hockey erased two deficits Saturday to upset No. 2-ranked UW-River Falls 5-3 in an NCAA quarterfinal game. The Gusties, now 24-3-2 overall, advance to the national semifinals where they will take on Plattsburgh State next weekend. 

Schoenrock, Vrieze Earn MIAC Elite 22 Awards

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) recognized some of its best and brightest winter sport student-athletes on Thursday with the announcement of the Elite 22 Awards. Two Gustavus student-athletes received the award as Betsy Schoenrock (Jr., New Richland) is the women’s basketball recipient and Kayla Vrieze (Sr., Eagan) is the women’s hockey recipient.
