Cross Country Earns USTFCCCA Academic Awards

The Gustavus men’s and women’s cross country teams were recognized with academic awards by the USTFCCCA on Thursday. The Gustie men posted a 3.509 GPA while the Gustie women achieved a 3.643 GPA, earning distinction as All-Academic Teams. All-Academic Athletes were also recognized, with Evelyn Villalobos representing the Gustie women.

The red-hot Gusties, having won six straight, faced a familiar foe on Wednesday night. After all, the Bethel Royals were one of two teams to defeat Gustavus this season, coming from behind to win the MIAC contest, 70-66. But the Gusties were determined to make sure history didn’t repeat itself.

Anna Sanders averaged 15.3 points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals per game, and added seven assists during the Gusties perfect week. Against Carleton, Sanders posted 17 points, eight rebounds – including seven defensive – and six steals. For her performance, Sanders was named MIAC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week.
