Nelson Named MIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Birgen Nelson won the 100-meter hurdles at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. on 4/8. Racing against a field of Division I athletes, Nelson won with a time of 13.88, which is currently the fastest in NCAA Division III this season. Nelson competed at Colorado College on 4/4 as well, winning the 100-hurdles in 14.07. Nelson also won the 100-meter in 12.19, which currently ranks first in the MIAC. Nelson finished the meet as a member the winning 4x100 relay team with a time of 48.92, which ranks second in the MIAC.

Baseball Wins First Game Against MSU-Mankato Since 1986

April 11, 1986 was the last time Gustavus defeated Minnesota State-Mankato in baseball and on Monday afternoon a losing streak of 25 games came to an end for the Gusties as they topped the Mavericks 11-7 at the Gustie Baseball Field. 

Novak Named MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Bryce Novak (Sr., Cleveland) hit .462 (12-for-26) as the Gusties went a perfect 7-0 last week, including a 6-0 start to the MIAC season.

Budde Named MIAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

Alex Budde defeated three nationally ranked opponents over the course of the week, winning singles matches against No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 13 Cal Tech, and No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Budde also picked up a pair of doubles wins, helping the Gusties defeat Cal Tech by an eventual 6-3 score, and defeated the No. 1 singles of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with partner Gage Gohl. For his performance, and for the second time this season, Budde was named MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

Softball Opens MIAC Play with Pair of Losses at No. 11 Bethel

After nearly two weeks off, the Gusties opened conference play against a formidable foe, facing nationally-ranked No. 11 Bethel Saturday afternoon. The Gusties dropped a tight game one in nine innings, 1-0, before falling 4-2 in the second matchup.

Baseball Remains Unbeaten at Home, Sweeps Macalester in Convincing Fashion

The Gustavus baseball team Saturday treated a good crowd at the Gustie Baseball Field to lopsided wins of 12-0 and 14-2 over Macalester on the first warm and sunny day of spring.

Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Illinois Wesleyan Invite

The Gustavus men's golf team fielded three teams at the Illinois Wesleyan Invite to open the spring season, finishing 12th, 14th, and 36th of 37 teams at the invite. The Gusties A team posted a two-round score of 310-305-615 to tie for 12th, while the Gusties B team carded a 314-302-616 for a tie at 14th. The final team for the Gusties finished 341-339-680.

Women’s Tennis Takes Seventh at Midwest Invite

The Gustavus women's tennis team hosted the Midwest Invite on Friday and Saturday and took seventh place out of eight teams.

Men’s Tennis Faces Handful of Ranked Opponents in California

The Gustavus men's tennis team toured southern California over spring break, facing a total of seven opponents for nine matches. The Gusties saw three NCAA DIII ranked opponents, facing No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 13 Cal Tech, and No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Gustavus came away with a trio of wins on the trip, including a 6-3 victory over the Beavers of Cal Tech.

Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Illinois Wesleyan

The Gustavus men’s golf team opened its spring season at the Illinois Wesleyan Invite, taking a trio of teams to compete at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. After round one, the first team sits in 18th, the second team in 21st, and the third and final team in 36th.
