Brenden Huber Named Assistant Coach For Cross Country and Track and Field Programs
Brenden Huber, a native of Huron, South Dakota and a 2005 graduate of the University of South Dakota, has been hired to be the new full-time assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs at Gustavus Adolphus College. Huber, who has been a part-time assistant for the past three years, will begin his duties in the middle of August.
Women’s Cross Country Ranked 34th in National Poll
The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has ranked the Gustavus women's cross country program 34th in its national poll released Wednesday. Coach Jed Friedrich and the Golden Gusties are coming off a seventh place performance at the 42-team Roy Griak Invitational held in St. Paul last Saturday. The Gusties appearance in the regional and national polls was aided by the fact the team finished higher than five schools ranked in the last week's Central Region poll.
Men’s Cross Country Finishes 14th at St. Olaf Invitational
The Golden Gustie men's cross country team turned in a 14th-place finish with 359 points at the 27 team St. Olaf Invitational Saturday morning. UW-La Crosse won the team competition with 83 points and all five runners finishing in the top 25. Dan Foley (Minneapolis, Minn.) was the top Gustavus finisher in 35th-place in 26:40.
Gustavus Women Runners Finish Seventh at St. Olaf Invitational
The Golden Gustie women's cross country team turned in a seventh-place finish with 198 points at the 25 team St. Olaf Invitational Saturday morning. First-place team UW-Eau Claire had three of the top 11 finishers to win with 97 points. Laura Edlund (Forest Lake, Minn.) again paced Gustavus with a 16th-place finish in 23:22.
College Sporting News Names Hailey Harren 2006-2007 Senior Female Student-Athlete of the Year from the MIAC
Gustavus senior cross country standout Hailey Harren has been named the College Sporting News Senior Female Student-Athlete of the Year from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Harren was selected by a committee comprised of coaches, administrators, and former MIAC athletes . She is being honored for her excellence in cross country, coupled with superios academic performance and involvememnt in community service.
Women’s Cross Country Second at UW-River Falls Invite, Harren Wins Individual Title
The Gustavus women's cross country team placed second out of five teams at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls Invitational. The Gusties posted a team total of 50 points which was 16 points behind first place St. Thomas (34). Hailey Harren finished first individually with a personal best time of 21:37.7 in the 6,000 meter race.
Women’s Cross Country Fourth at MIAC Meet; Harren and Joyce Finish 1-3
The Gustavus women's cross country team, led by individual champion Hailey Harren, finished fourth Saturday at the 2005 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships held at Como Park in St. Paul. Harren, Kourtney Joyce (third), and Ashley Cronin (14th) each received All-MIAC honors for their efforts.
Cross Country Teams Recognized as All-Academic Teams
The Gustavus men's and women's cross country teams were recognized as All-Academic Teams by the NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches Association. Senior Nichole Petersen was also named to the Individual All-Academic Team.
Cross Country Teams to Compete at NCAA Region Meet
The Gustavus men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Central Region Meet on Saturday, November 13 in Waverly, Iowa. The men are scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. and the women will follow at 12:00 p.m.
Cross Country Teams Set to Compete in the MIAC Championships
The Gustavus men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the 2004 MIAC Championships. The conference race will take place on Saturday at Como Park in St. Paul, Minn. The men will race at 2pm with the women to follow at 3pm.
