The Gustavus Adolphus women’s tennis team suffered a 5-0 loss at the hands of Chicago University in the NCAA Regional Championship held in Chicago on Sunday afternoon. Chicago moves on to play Denison in the quarterfinals of the 2011 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship held in Claremont, Calif. May 24-26. Gustavus finishes its season with a 20-10 overall record.
A combination of pitching and offense helped the Gustavus softball team finish its' week at the Tucson Invitational undefeated after defeating the University of Chicago 5-1 and Lawrence University 13-9. After losing the first two games of the season, head coach Jeff Annis and the Golden Gusties have won ten straight games to bring their overall record to 10-2. Gustavus is scheduled to begin MIAC play with a doubleheader against Macalester on Sunday at 1 p.m. in St. Peter.
The Gustavus softball team stayed perfect at the Tucson Invitational on Monday, March 24 with wins over Lawrence University and the University of Chicago. The Gusties defeated Lawrence 9-1 in six innings in the early game and held off a seventh-inning rally from the University of Chicago in a 6-5 win. Gustavus, which improved to 6-2 overall, will face Kalamazoo and Luther on Tuesday, March 25.
The Wheaton women's tennis team trailed the University of Chicago 2-1 after doubles play, but stormed back with wins in four of six singles matches to post a 5-3 victory over the Maroons in a NCAA First Round Match at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. Wheaton will face host Gustavus Adolphus in a second round match Saturday, May 6 at noon.
The Gustavus women's tennis team kept its hopes of a third straight Midwest Invitational title alive Saturday morning with a 5-3 semifinal win over the University of Chicago. The win moves the Gusties (19-3) into Saturday afternoon's final where they will face DePauw University.
