Women’s Hockey Advances To NCAA Championship Finals With 2-0 Win Over UW-River Falls
The Gustavus women's hockey team scored twice in the third period to slip past the University of Wisconsin-River Falls by the score of 2-0 in a NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal game on Saturday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter, Minn. With the win, Gustavus earns the right to the host the NCAA Championship Finals next Friday and Saturday.
Mackley, Hjelm, Peterson, And Schwab Named To Women’s Hockey All-Conference Team
Four members of the Gustavus women’s hockey team were named to the 2010 All-Conference Team by the league coaches this past week. First year Lindsey Hjelm (North Oaks, Minn.), senior Melissa Mackley (Burnsville, Minn.), junior Kirstin Peterson (St. Paul, Minn.), and sophomore Allie Schwab (Stillwater, Minn.) were bestowed All-Conference Team honors.
Women’s Hockey Advances To MIAC Playoff Championship With 5-0 Win Over St. Olaf
The Gustavus women's hockey team turned in a dominating performance against St. Olaf on Thursday night and advanced to the MIAC Playoff Championship game with a 5-0 win over St. Olaf at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. The Gusties, who will be playing in the MIAC Playoff title game for the eleventh consecutive year, will host #2 seed St. Catherine on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The Wildcats advanced with a 4-3 win over St. Thomas on Thursday night.
Women’s Hockey Defeats Augsburg 8-0, Wins Sixth Consecutive MIAC Title
The Gustavus women's hockey team scored four first period goals and never looked back on its way to a convincing 8-0 win over Augsburg at Don Roberts Ice Rink on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Gusties claimed their sixth consecutive league title and earned the #1 seed in the MIAC Playoff Tournament, which begins next Thursday.
Women’s Hockey Defeats Augsburg 4-0, Needs Win On Saturday to Win MIAC Title Outright
The Gustavus women's hockey team defeated Augsburg 4-0 Friday night in Minneapolis, Minn. The Gusties led 1-0 after the first period. Mike Carroll's squard scored two more goals in the second period and one in the third securing the 4-0 victory. Last night's win assures the Gusties of at least a top two seed in the MIAC Post-Season Tournament.
Late Power Play Goals Lead Women’s Hockey Past Hamline 3-1
In a tightly contested game that remained tied through well into the third period, Gustavus scored twice late in the third period to defeat Hamline by a score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. Melissa Mackley came up big for the Gusties once again, scoring the game’s first goal in the second period and later assisting on the team’s final goal late in the third period. The Gusties improved to 15-4-2 overall and 10-3-1 in the MIAC, while extending their win streak to six games.
Three Goal Third Period Allows Women’s Hockey To Defeat Concordia 4-0
The Gustavus women's hockey team completed an important weekend sweep over Concordia College with a 4-0 win in Moorhead on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties got goals from Alyssa Saunders, Kelsey Kennedy, Tam Meuwissen, and Allie Schwab, while goaltender Danielle Justice recorded the win in the net. Meuwissen (16:14) and Schwab's (17:07) goals, which gave the Gusties some breathing room, came less than a minute apart midway through the third period. Gustavus improves to 12-4-2 overall and 8-3-1 in MIAC play.
Women’s Hockey Defeats St. Catherine 3-1
The Gustavus women's hockey team salvaged a split in its MIAC series with St. Catherine University with a 3-1 win at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 through two periods before claiming the 3-1 victory. Melissa Mackley, Allie Schwab, and Meagan Wanecke each scored goals for Gustavus, while Danielle Justice recorded nine saves and picked up the win in goal. The Gusties are now 10-4-2 overall and 6-3-1 in the MIAC.
Meuwissen’s Early Goal Allows Women’s Hockey To Slip Past Saint Mary’s 1-0
The Gustavus women's hockey team got an early goal from Tam Meuwissen and held on for a 1-0 non-conference win over Saint Mary's at Don Robert's Ice Rink in St. Peter on Saturday afternoon. Danielle Justice and Emily Klatt combined to post the shutout in goal for Gustavus.

The Gustavus women's hockey team claimed a 3-1 win over St. Olaf in Northfield, Minn. on Saturday night. The Gusties got goals from Lindsey Hjelm and Whitney Schaff to take a 2-0 lead and then Allie Schwab closed out the scoring with an open net goal in the final seconds. Emily Klatt picked up the win in the nets.
