Kruize, Sharbono Named MIAC Men’s Basketball Honorable Mention

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its men’s basketball postseason awards Tuesday and two Gustavus student-athletes received honorable mention. Peter Kruize (Sr., St. Peter, Minn.) and Riley Sharbono (So., Marshall, Minn.) were recognized as All-Conference Honorable Mention.

The Auggies got off a three-pointer in the final seconds, but a block by Jason Faul (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) sealed the victory as the Gusties snapped a six-game losing streak, improving to 3-3 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 3-8 overall

Early Lead Dissipates As Men’s Basketball Loses To St. Thomas 83-65

A hot start and a 7-0 lead by the Gustavus men’s basketball team Monday night quickly turned the other direction as St. Thomas went on a 14-6 run over the next 2:29 and held on to the advantage the rest of way en route to an 83-65 victory. The loss drops the Gusties to 2-8 overall and 2-3 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, while the Tommies improve to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.

An 18-1 run midway through the second half provided more than enough of an advantage for the Gustavus men’s basketball team Wednesday night in its home and Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener against Concordia as the Gusties cruised to a 92-75 victory at Gus Young Court. The victory is the first for the Gusties early in the season as they improve to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC, while the Cobbers fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.
