Gustavus men’s tennis players Amrik Donkena (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) and Mya Smith-Dennis (So., Savage, Minn.) finished second at the NCAA Doubles Championships on Saturday afternoon in Cary, N.C. The Gusties, who were seeded No. 1 in the tournament, lost to Luis Rattenhuber and Austin Chafetz of Amherst 6-4, 5-7, 3-6 in the championship match.
Donkena And Smith-Dennis Reach Semifinals Of NCAA Doubles Championships
The top-seeded doubles team of Gustavus’ Amrik Donkena and Mya Smith-Dennis reached the semifinal round of the NCAA Doubles Championships on Friday in Cary, N.C. The Gusties defeated Matt Bettles and Rob Crampton of Bates in a second set tiebreak 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
Men’s Tennis Falls In NCAA Regional Final To No. 15 Washington University
The Gustavus men’s tennis team ended its season Sunday afternoon in Whitewater, Wis., falling to 15th-ranked Washington University in St. Louis 5-0 in an NCAA Division III Regional title match. Washington advances to the eight-team championship series with a 17-6 record, while the Gusties end their campaign at 22-8 – the most wins in a season during head coach Tommy Valentini’s three years at the helm.
Men’s Tennis To Compete At NCAA Championship Saturday
After breezing through the MIAC Playoffs last weekend, the Gustavus men’s tennis team is prepared to compete at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship on Saturday in Whitewater, Wis. The Gusties received a first round bye and will face the winner between the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Concordia-Wisconsin on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
