Gustavus Adolphus College has selected Mapleton, Minnesota native, Jeff Annis as its new softball coach. Annis replaces Shanda Ness who resigned in May after serving as head coach for the past eight years. Annis, who retired as the girls’ head softball coach at Maple River High School in May, will begin his duties immediately.

The Gustavus softball team had three players named to the all-tournament team after last weekend’s MIAC Post-season tournament. Those players were first-year infielder Julie Mahre (White Bear Lake, Minn.), sophomore pitcher Joyce DeWitz (Good Thunder, Minn.), and junior outfielder Kristin Kunz (Esko, Minn.).

Despite only one hit, St. Mary’s was able to defeat Gustavus and advance to the MIAC championship game. An RBI double by Cardinals catcher Amy Edge in the third inning was the difference, as Gustavus could only muster three hits.
