Ziegler Freestyle Win Gives Men’s Nordic Skiing Historic Day at Telemark

The Gustavus Nordic ski team capped off an exciting weekend of action at the NorAm SuperTour stop at Telemark Resort in Cable, Wis. Senior Erich Ziegler opened the weekend with a 19th-place finish among collegiate skiers in Saturday's 10K Classic and followed that up with a first-place finish among collegiate skiers in Sunday's 15K Freestyle. Ziegler's win was the first by a Gustavus skier in a NCAA/CCSA qualifier.

Ziegler Leads Men’s Nordic Skiing Effort at Mt. Itasca SuperTour Event

The Gustavus men's Nordic ski team continued its season Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 21-22 by participating in the NorAm SuperTour event at Mount Itasca Ski Area near Coleraine, Minn. Senior Erich Ziegler recorded the top Gustie marks in both the freestyle and classic races, finishing 33rd in the classic (29:23.6) and 41st in the freestyle (25:41.4).

Nordic Skiing Competes at Madison Square Sprints

The Gustavus Nordic skiing team sent four skiiers to Madison, Wis. on Jan. 14 and 15 to compete in the Capital Square Sprints. Sophomore Kathleen DeWahl and Kelly Chaudoin advanced to the elimination round in the Olympic Juniors division, placing fifth and eight, respectively. Freshmen Justin Young and Eli Anoszko competed in the Olympic Juniors division for the Gustavus men, but failed to qualify for the finals.

Nordic Skiing Opens Season at U.S. Nationals

The Gustavus nordic skiing teams opened their 2006 seasons at the United States Ski Association (USSA) United States Cross Country National Championships at Soldier Hollow Ski Area near Salt Lake City, Utah. The U.S. Nationals serves as the first of five Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) qualifiers for the 2006 NCAA National Collegiate Skiing Championships.

2006 Nordic Skiing Preview

The Gustavus Adolphus men's and women's Nordic skiing teams will open their 2006 seasons by hitting the course at Soldier Hollow, Utah for the USSA U.S. Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, Jan. 7 and Sunday, Jan. 8. Soldier Hollow played host to the skiing competition during the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Games. Women's 10K and men's 15K races using the Classic discipline will be contested on Saturday, while races using the Freestyle discipline will be held on Sunday.

The Gustavus Adolphus College men's Nordic ski team ended its 2005 season at the CCSA Central Regional Championships on February 19-20. The Gusties compiled 84 team points and placed sixth out of eight teams.
