Nordic Skiing Tackles Freestyle Race at Mt. Itasca

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic skiing team closed out its weekend at the NorAm SuperTour/NCAA Qualifier at Mt. Itasca Ski Area near Coleraine, Minn., by competing in Sunday's freestyle races. Kelly Chaudoin finished 19th overall in the 10-kilometer women's race to lead the Gusties, while Scott Kyser was the highest Gustavus finisher in the 15-kilometer men's race in 71st place.

Nordic Skiing Competes in Classic Races at Mt. Itasca NCAA Qualifier

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic skiing team competed in classic technique races Saturday at the Mt. Itasca SuperTour Event/NCAA Qualifier near Coleraine, Minn. Scott Kyser posted the best finish in the men's 10-kilometer race (73rd overall; 29:58.9), while Laura Edlund had the best time in the women's 5-kilometer race (24th overall; 16:25.8). Freestyle races will wrap-up competition Sunday.

Nordic Skiing Competes at Capitol Square Sprints

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic Skiing team took a break from Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) competition Sunday when it participated in the Capitol Square Sprints in Madison, Wis. Kelly Chaudoin placed third in the women's Olympic Juniors (OJ) division, while Kathryn Ladig placed sixth. Elias Anoszko placed sixth in the men's OJ division, while Sarah Willis placed seventh in the women's SuperTour division competing mainly against touring professionals.

Nordic Skiing Finishes 12th in College Cup at U.S. Nationals

Led by a strong showing by the women's team, the Gustavus Nordic skiing finished 12th in the College Cup at the U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships this past weekend in Houghton, Mich. The Gusties finished with 404 points, four back of Western State (Colo.) and six back of defending NCAA Skiing Champion University of Colorado. Northern Michigan edged the Dartmouth Outing Club, 790-757, for the title.

Nordic Skiing Attacks Freestyle Course, Sprints at U.S. Nationals

Distance competition concluded Thursday with freestyle races at the U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships at Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Mich. Laura Edlund recorded the best finish by a Gustie women's skier with a 58th place finish overall (third among Division III skiers) in the 10K women's race. Scott Kyser led Gustavus in the 15K men's race with a 151st place finish, 13th-best among skiers from NCAA Division III schools. Four Gustie skiers will compete for national sprint titles this weekend.

Nordic Skiing Competes in Classic Race at U.S. Nationals

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski team continued their season Wednesday at the opening day of competition at the United States Cross Country Skiing Championships at the Michigan Tech Nordic Training Center in Houghton, Mich. The Gusties competed in classic technique races with siblings Brynden Manbeck and Kevin Patzoldt capturing the top Gustavus finishes in their respective races. Competition continues Thursday with freestyle races (10K-women; 15K-men).

Nordic Skiing Competes in Season Opener

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic skiing team opened their 2006-07 season last weekend at the Grand View Cross Country Ski Challenge in Ironwood, Mich. Kathleen DeWahl led the Gustie women with an 11th place finish in the women's open division of Saturday's 1K freestyle sprint and a 17th place finish in Sunday's 5K classical race. Elias Anoszko led the Gustie men with a 12th place finish in the Olympic Juniors division of Saturday's sprint, while Scott Kyser finished 55th in Sunday's 10K classical race.

Nordic Skiing Opens Season This Weekend in Michigan

The Gustavus Adolphus Nordic ski team will open its season this weekend at the Grand View Cross Country Ski Challenge at Wolverine Nordic Ski Club near Ironwood, Mich. Saturday's action will feature a 1-kilometer freestyle sprint at nearby Big Powderhorn Mountain, while Sunday's races will feature a 5-kilometer women's classic race and a 10-kilometer men's classic race, both at Wolverine Ski Trail.

Men’s Nordic Skiing Posts Sixth Place Finish at CCSA Regional Championships

The Gustavus men's Nordic ski team closed out its 2006 season with a sixth-place team finish at the Central Collegiate Ski Association Regional Championships last weekend (Feb. 17-18) hosted by Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Mich. The Gusties (79 points overall) finished sixth in both the classic (41 points) and freestyle (38 points) disciplines.

St. Olaf Edges Men’s Nordic Ski 125-122 at NCAA Qualifer #4

The Gustavus men's Nordic ski team finished second in both disciplines at last weekend's Minnesota College Nordic Ski Championships held at the Saint John's Trails in Collegeville. St. Olaf took the team title, edging the Gusties 125-122. Andy Rishavy and Erich Ziegler finished second and third respectively to lead the Gusties in Saturday's 10K Classic, while Ziegler picked up the win in Sunday's 17K Skate. The event also served as the fourth of five CCSA/NCAA Regional qualifiers.
