Abegglen, Thelen Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team

The 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Teams were released Thursday morning and Gustavus junior kicker Andrew Abegglen (Mound) and senior receiver Dalton Thelen (Cold Spring) were selected to the District 6 Team, which recognizes student-athletes from institutions in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Andrew Abegglen (Jr., Mound) made a 31-yard field goal late in Gustavus's 39-7 victory at Concordia to tie the program record of 13 made field goals in a season. He is now tied with Ryan Boutwell - who went 13-of-18 in 1997 - for the school record.

Football Wins Decisively at Concordia, Finishes With Best Record Since 1998

The Gustavus football team completed its best season in over two decades on Saturday with a decisive 39-7 victory at snow-covered Concordia. With the win, the Gusties end the season in third place in the MIAC at 6-2 and went 8-2 overall for the first time since 1998.

Abegglen Earns Fourth MIAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week Honor

Andrew Abegglen (Jr., Mound) was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goal tries in Saturday's 29-14 win over St. Olaf. His field goals were of 32, 42, and 23 yards. The 42-yarder was his career-long. Abegglen is now one made field goal shy of tying the Gustavus program record for made field goals in a season (13).

Football Wins Final Home Game 29-14 Over St. Olaf

The Gustavus football team won its final home game of the season Saturday at Hollingsworth Field, defeating St. Olaf 29-14, improving to 7-2 overall, 5-2 in the MIAC, and 3-1 in the Northwoods Division. With the victory, the Gusties have secured a spot in the MIAC third-place matchup next Saturday at Concordia, who earned the Skyline Division’s No. 2 seed with a 41-7 victory over Hamline today.

The Gustavus football team hosts St. Olaf at 1 p.m. Saturday in the final home game of the season at Hollingsworth Field. The Gusties enter the contest 6-2 overall, 4-2 in the MIAC, and 2-1 in the Northwoods Division, while the Oles are 4-4 overall, 3-3 in the league, and 2-1 in the division.
