Six Baseball Players Earn All-Conference Honors

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2004 baseball awards in the past week and Gustavus figured notably in the awards. Six Gusties were named to the All-Conference team, and sophomore Ben Sherer was named MIAC Player of the Year.

The Gustavus baseball team lost 6-5 to St. Thomas in the MIAC Playoff Championship game in Dundas, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties conclude their season at 29-15.

Baseball Player Ben Sherer Named MIAC Player of the Year

Gustavus sophomore first baseman Ben Sherer has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year by the MIAC baseball coaches. A two-time all-conference selection, Sherer won the MIAC batting title with a .513 average.

Baseball Team Advances to Second Day of the MIAC Tournament

The Gusties defeated Concordia 7-6 and then lost to St. Thomas 4-2 on Friday. The team will play St. Olaf on Saturday afternoon in the consolation final.

Baseball Team Set to Play in MIAC Playoffs on Friday

The Gustavus baseball team will play Concordia on Friday at 3:00 pm at Sechler Park in Northfield in the first round of the MIAC tournament. The Cobbers are the #2 seed and the Gusties are the #3 seed in the four team double-elimination tournament.

Bryant Rogness Named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Hitter of the Week

Bryant Rogness was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Hitter of the Week for the period ending May 9. The senior second baseman had a .688 batting average, going 11 for 16 with 6 RBI and 10 runs scored.

Baseball Sweeps Finlandia 13-1, 10-0 to Wrap Up Regular Season

The Gustavus baseball team completed its regular season by winning two non-conference games from Finlandia University by the scores of 13-1 and 10-0. The Gusties will play Concordia in the MIAC Playoffs on Friday.

Baseball Team Sweeps Carleton, Clinches Playoff Spot

The Gustavus baseball team swept Carleton 10-4, 11-2 on Saturday afternoon and clinched a spot in the MIAC playoffs which begin next Friday in Northfield. The Gusties, the #3 seed in the tourney, play Concordia next Friday at 3:00 pm.

Gusties Sweep Pipers, 11-2, 26-2

The Gustavus baseball team moved one step closer to clinching an MIAC playoff berth with a doubleheader sweep against Hamline on Wednesday. The Gusties claimed game one 11-2 and game two 26-2.

Baseball Falls to MSU, Mankato, 7-1

The Gustavus baseball team lost a non-conference contest to Minnesota State, Mankato 7-1 in St. Peter on Monday afternoon.
