Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Williams

Strong pitching performances dominated the diamond Thursday as the Gustavus baseball team split a doubleheader with Williams, falling in game one, 7-2, while winning the nightcap, 7-0.

Baseball Posts 8-5 Win Over UW-Whitewater in Arizona

The Gustavus baseball team pushed its overall record to 7-2 Tuesday with an 8-5 win over UW-Whitewater at the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational. Senior Ben Sherer led the Gusties with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with a pair of doubles and a pair of runs scored. Shea Roehrkasse also chipped in with a pair of hits. Gustavus will face North Carolina Wesleyan in a doubleheader Wednesday.

Baseball Remains Unbeaten With Sweep of Allegheny College

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team opened its spring break trip to Phoenix with a doubleheader sweep of Allegheny College. As has been the case in each of the Gusties' first two doubleheaders, Josh Spitzack threw a gem during a 5-3 win in game one and the Gustie bats took over in game two, completing the sweep with a 9-2 win.

Baseball Moves Record to 4-0 With Sweep of Martin Luther at Metrodome

The Gustavus baseball team improved its record to 4-0 with a sweep of Martin Luther early Sunday morning at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Gusties prevailed 6-0 in game one behind a complete-game, two-hitter by Josh Spitzack and completed the sweep with a 12-3 win in game two behind an eight-run second inning. Gustavus will next be in action March 25-30 when they participate in the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational in Arizona.

Start Time Moved Up for Sunday’s Metrodome Baseball Doubleheader vs. Martin Luther

Due to a scheduling conflict created by the public tribute to the late Minnesota Twins great Kirby Puckett scheduled for Sunday evening at the Metrodome, the start time for Sunday's Golden Gustie baseball doubleheader with Martin Luther has been moved up. Game one of the doubleheader will now begin at 3 a.m. Sunday morning instead of 10:15 p.m. Sunday night.

Baseball Opens Season With Sweep of Dickinson State at Metrodome

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team got its season off to a good start early Monday morning with a sweep of Dickinson State (N.D.) at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis. Gustavus took game one 3-2 behind the strong pitching of Josh Spitzack and used a five-run first inning to take game two by the score of 6-2.

2006 Men’s Baseball Preview

The Gustavus baseball team returns all but three players from a team that posted a record of 21-18 overall, 11-9 in the MIAC (5th place) and just missed qualifying for a spot in the conference playoffs behind Concordia (12-8 MIAC). Coach Mike Carroll's 2006 squad features All-MIAC selections Ben Sherer (Sr., Bismarck, ND) and Anders Schmidt (Sr., Lakeville, MN).

Baseball Has Two Players Selected to All-Conference Team

The Gustavus Adolphus College baseball team had two players selected to the 2005 All-Conference Team. First baseman Ben Sherer, a junior from Bismarck, N.D., and pitcher Anders Schmidt, a junior from Lakeville, Minn. were both selected to the team.

Wade Vrieze named MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Gustavus sophomore Wade Vrieze has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the period ending May 9th. Vrieze went 11-for-19 at the plate (.578) to help the Gusties post a record of 4-1 in five games last week.

Baseball Team Sweeps Simpson 5-2 and 8-5

The Gustavus baseball team swept non-conference opponent Simpson College 5-2 and 8-5 in St. Peter on Sunday afternoon. The Gusties, who improved to 20-17 overall, will close out their regular season on Monday against Saint John's at 2:30 pm.
