Baseball to Meet St. Olaf in First-Round MIAC Tournament Action Friday

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team has qualified for the seventh annual Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament this weekend in Northfield and Dundas. The Gusties, seeded third, will face No. 2 seed St. Olaf in a first-round matchup at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Northfield's Sechler Park. Top-seeded St. Thomas will face No. 4 seed Hamline at the same time at Memorial Park in Dundas in the other first-round game. The double-elimination tournament will run through Saturday.

Baseball Closes Regular Season With Sweep At Buena Vista

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team got a little extra work in prior to this weekend's MIAC Tournament, improving to 28-11 overall with a doubleheader sweep of Buena Vista Monday in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Gusties scored three runs in the third inning of game one and never looked back, winning 5-1. Gustavus clubbed five home runs in game two, including two by Tony Konicek to prevail 9-2. Gustavus is idle until Friday when it faces St. Olaf in a first-round MIAC Tournament game in Northfield.

Baseball Splits With St. Olaf Falling 11-0, Winning 6-1

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team closed out its MIAC schedule with a split at St. Olaf Saturday in Northfield. St. Olaf limited Gustavus to two hits in the Oles' 11-0 game one win, but allowed 15 hits in game two as the Gusties took game two 6-1. Wade Vrieze hit a home run and Tony Konicek added a pair of doubles in the game two win.

Baseball Team Sweeps Bethel 10-3 and 6-2 to Extend Win Streak to Nine Games

The Gustavus baseball team moved closer to clinching a MIAC Tournament berth with an important double-header sweep against Bethel in Arden Hills Tuesday afternoon. The Gusties won game one 10-3 and then claimed game two 6-2. Gustavus will host Carleton Wednesday afternoon. The Gusties can clinch a playoff spot with a sweep against the Knights.

Baseball Takes Pair From Carleton, Locks Up MIAC Playoff Berth

The Gustavus baseball team extended its winning streak to 11 games and locked up one of four spots in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball playoffs with a sweep of Carleton Wednesday afternoon. The Gusties took game one 9-5 and completed the sweep with a 18-8 win in game two. Sophomore catcher Shea Roehrkasse batted 3-for-6 on the day, including a pair of home runs and five RBI in game two.

Baseball Sweeps Macalester, Moves Winning Streak to Seven Games

The Gustavus baseball team put 22 runs on the board Tuesday and ran its winning streak to seven games with a doubleheader sweep of Macalester in St. Peter. The Gusties took game one 11-2 and won game two 11-1. Shea Roehrkasse went 5-for-7 with two RBI, while Mike DesLauriers went 5-for-6 with two RBI to lead Gustavus. The Gusties improve to 21-10 overall, 9-5 in the MIAC and will travel to Bethel for a doubleheader Saturday.

Madson, Click Named MIAC Players of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior baseball player Aaron Madson and first-year softball player Rachael Click have been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week in their respective sports for the week ending April 23, 2006.

Baseball Takes Pair From Wartburg 8-5, 10-2

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team pushed its winning streak to five games Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of non-conference foe Wartburg. Justin Boelter pitched effectively in game one, allowing five runs on six hits to get the 8-5 win despite giving up a pair of home runs to Wartburg catcher Brian Greiner. The Gusties used a seven-run fifth inning to turn what had been a scoreless pitcher's dual into a runaway 10-2 victory.

Madson Homers Twice as Baseball Sweeps Saint Mary’s

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team kept itself in the thick of things for a spot in the MIAC Playoffs Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Saint Mary's, 4-1 and 17-11. Dave Wold pitched a complete game, six-hitter to get the win in game one, while Aaron Madson hit two home runs and a double and knocked in four runs during game two.

Baseball Splits With Concordia Falling 8-7, Winning 12-1

The Gustavus Adolphus baseball team picked up its fourth split in five doubleheaders Wednesday with a split against Concordia College in Moorhead. The Gusties fell 8-7 in game one after leading at one point 7-2, but rebounded to take the second game, 12-1. Gustavus (15-5, 5-5 MIAC) was led by Wade Vrieze, who went 5-for-8 with three doubles and a triple. Vrieze also drove in three and scored four times.
