Despite only one hit, St. Mary’s was able to defeat Gustavus and advance to the MIAC championship game. An RBI double by Cardinals catcher Amy Edge in the third inning was the difference, as Gustavus could only muster three hits.

St. Mary’s pitcher Jenny Schipp (21-4) struck out six, walked none and scattered six hits in the complete game six-hitter.

A three run first inning would prove to be enough for the Gusties to defeat Hamline in the elimination game Friday afternoon. Joyce DeWitz struck out four and walked only two batters to lead Gustavus to victory.

The Gustavus Adolphus College softball team will play Saint Mary’s on Friday in the first round of the MIAC Tournament. Second-seeded Saint Mary’s and third-seeded Gustavus begin at 3 p.m. at Hamline in the round-robin format.
