The Gustavus women’s hockey team defeated St. Thomas 2-1 in overtime to win the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff championship on Saturday afternoon at Don Roberts Ice Arena. Andrea Peterson ripped a slapshot past St. Thomas goaltender Becky Kilpatrick 11:39 into the overtime to give the Gusties the victory.

The MIAC women’s hockey coaches have named Gustavus junior defender Andrea Peterson the 2006 Player of the Year. Head Coach Mike Carroll was also named Coach of the Year. Joining Peterson on the all-conference team were senior Abby Randall, junior Kelly Crandall, sophomores Molly Doyle and Margaret Dorer, and first year Mari Gunderson.
