Vrieze Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week
Kayla Vrieze helped the Gusties to two shutouts on the blue line, with scores of 7-0 and 1-0 against Lake Forest, limiting the Foresters to only 13 shots over the weekend. Vrieze also added a goal and two assists Friday, as well as eight shots between the two games. For her performance, Vrieze was named MIAC Women's Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Volleyball Heads to Northwestern-St. Paul for NCAA Regional, Will Face UW-Eau Claire
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) on Monday announced the 64-team field for its Division III Volleyball Championship and Gustavus (25-4) is selected to face University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, hosted by Northwestern-St. Paul.
Volleyball Wins MIAC Playoff Championship in Five-Set Thriller
The No. 14 nationally-ranked Gusties played only one match to five sets in the regular season, a 3-2 victory over St. Olaf. History was destined to repeat itself Saturday night, as the Gusties emerged victorious in a five-set thriller, defeating St. Olaf to win the MIAC Playoff Championship and punch a ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
Remington’s Power Play Goal Gives Gusties 1-0 Win, Weekend Sweep
Hot off scoring four power play goals the night before, the Gustavus women’s hockey special teams were back at it again, scoring the only goal necessary to defeat Lake Forest 1-0 Saturday afternoon. Brooke Remington was the hero for the Gusties, netting a power play goal in the third period — her first of the season and first goal in a Gustie jersey.
Cross Country Competes at Saint John’s Fall Finale
The men's and women's cross country teams took to Collegeville, Minn. Friday night to compete in the Saint John's Fall Finale. The Gusties competed against athletes from Saint John's and Saint Benedict, posting five top-15 finishes.
No. 2 Gusties Erupt for Seven Goals Against Lake Forest
The No. 2 Gusties had no short of offense Friday night, scoring a total of seven goals, four on the power play, to deal Lake Forest their first loss of the year, 7-0.
Volleyball Advances to MIAC Championship, Sweeps Saint Benedict 3-0
The Gusties hosted the five-seed Saint Benedict for a MIAC semifinal matchup Thursday night, and for the fourth time in as many matches, the Gusties posted a 3-0 sweep, punching their ticket to the MIAC Championship to be held in Saint Peter Saturday night. The Gusties posted set victories of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-22 to defeat the Bennies, extending their winning streak to 14.
Volleyball Earns Seven MIAC Honors
The MIAC announced its 2022 volleyball awards on Wednesday, highlighted by conference Offensive Player of the Year honors for Marlee Turn, Rookie of the Year honors for Maren Sundberg, and Coach of the Year honors for Rachelle Sherden. Turn and Sundberg added All-Conference honors to their accolades, while Sarah Elliott and Kasie Tweet both received the All-Conference nod as well.
Volleyball to Host Saint Benedict Thursday in MIAC Semifinal
The Gustavus volleyball team is set to host Saint Benedict at 7 p.m. Thursday for a MIAC semifinal playoff matchup at Gus Young Court. As the league’s No. 1 seed, the Gusties earned a first round bye while the fifth-ranked Bennies captured a 3-1 upset over No. 4 Bethel Tuesday night.
No. 15 Gusties Defeat Saint Mary’s, Finish with Perfect MIAC Record
The No. 15 Gustavus volleyball team finished its regular season Saturday night, defeating Saint Mary’s in a 3-0 sweep to claim a perfect MIAC record of 11-0 and an overall record of 23-4.
