St. Olaf And St. Thomas Advance In First Round Of MIAC Men’s Tennis Playoffs

The fourth-seed St. Olaf Oles and the sixth-seed St. Thomas Tommies advanced to the semifinal round of the MIAC Men's Tennis Playoffs on Friday at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter. The Oles defeated the fifth-seed Saint John's Johnnies 7-2, while the Tommies upset the third-seed Bethel Royals 5-4.

Offense Comes Alive As Baseball Sweeps Macalester 11-3, 8-6

The Gustavus baseball team pounded out 27 hits as it broke out of its offensive slump to post a doubleheader sweep over Macalester by the scores of 11-3 and 8-6 on Thursday in St. Peter. Spencer Campion had a big day at the plate for the Gusties as he went 4-for-7, scored four runs, drove in five runs, and hit the game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two to help Gustavus earn the sweep.

Kaelene Lundstrum In First Place After First Day Of MIAC Heptathlon, Janey Helland And Laura Secor In Top Five

Gustavus junior Kaelene Lundstrum scored 2,885 points to stand in first place after the first day of the MIAC Heptathlon which is being held at Carleton College in Northfield. Lundstrum leads Leah Kay of Concordia by 189 points. Sophomores Janey Helland and Laura Secor finished in third place with 2,259 points and fifth place with 2,184 points, respectively.

Carl Stenoien Finishes First Day Of MIAC Decathlon Championships In Ninth Place

Gustavus sophomore Carl Stenoien tallied 2,844 points for ninth place after the first day of the MIAC Decathlon Championships hosted by Carleton College in Northfield. Ryan Doyle of St. Olaf compiled 3,439 points for first place, while Paul Westmark of Concordia sits in second with 3,324 points. Points earned during the competition, which concludes on Friday in Northfield, carry over to the team point totals for the MIAC Outdoor

Bats Struggle As Baseball Team Swept By St. Olaf 11-2 And 3-2

The Gustavus baseball team suffered a setback in the race for a post-season berth after dropping two games to St. Olaf by the scores of 11-2 and 3-2 in nine innings on Tuesday in St. Peter. The Gusties were not able to string together many hits as they managed just four hits in each game compared to the Oles, who generated more than ten hits per contest. Gustavus fell to 7-9 in league play, while St. Olaf improved to 11-5 in the MIAC standings.

Baseball Doubleheader Versus St. Olaf Moved To Tuesday

The Gustavus baseball doubleheader against St. Olaf set for Monday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Peter has been postponed due to poor weather conditions. The makeup date is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Peter.

Women’s Track and Field Competes In Drake Alternative

The Gustavus Adolphus women's outdoor track and field team hosted the Drake Alternative Outdoor Meet Saturday in St. Peter, winning 10 events. Top Gustie performers of the meet included double event winners Janey Helland (So., Mapleton, Minn.) in the 400 hurdles and the long jump and Sam Broderius (So., Hector, Minn.) in the shot put and the discus. No team scores were kept during the meet.

Men’s Tennis Defeats Macalester And St. Thomas To Claim 21st Consecutive MIAC Crown

The Gustavus men's tennis team defeated Macalester 9-0 and St. Thomas 6-3 to earn its 21st consecutive MIAC Championship on Saturday. The Gusties finished conference play undefeated at 9-0 and improved to 23-8 overall. Gustavus will host the MIAC Championships at the Brown Outdoor Tennis Courts beginning with the #3-6 seeds competing on Friday, May 1. The top-seeded Gustavus will face the lowest remaining seed on Saturday, May 2 at 9 a.m.

Men’s Track and Field Competes At Drake Alternative

The Gustavus Adolphus men's outdoor track and field team hosted the Drake Alternative Outdoor Meet Saturday in St. Peter, posting 12 top-five finishes. Event winners included Carson Smith (So., Prior Lake, Minn.) in the 800 meters and Dan Foley (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) in the 5,000 meters, and the 4x800 relay team. No team scores were kept during the meet.

Lisa Brown Finishes 3rd In Javelin At Drake Relays

Gustavus senior Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) finished third in the javelin at the prestigious Drake Relays with a NCAA automatic distance of 161 feet. Brown, whose mark is the second-best throw in Division III so far this outdoor season, was the only non-Division I competitor to finish in the top ten. Kara Patterson of Purdue won the event with a throw of 177 feet, 9 inches.
