Track & Field Set to Compete at MIAC Indoor Championships this Weekend

After a one day delay due to winter weather, the Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to compete at the MIAC Indoor Championships this weekend at Macalester College in Saint Paul.

SAINT PETER, Minn. – After a one day delay due to winter weather, the Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field teams are set to compete at the MIAC Indoor Championships this weekend at Macalester College in Saint Paul. Friday’s competition will feature the multi events with the rest of the meet running Saturday and Sunday.

The women’s pentathlon starts at 2 p.m. Friday with the men’s heptathlon beginning 20 minutes later. The heptathlon finishes up Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Saturday’s field events are set to start at 3:30 p.m. and track will follow at 4:30 p.m. Sunday’s final session starts with 10:15 a.m. field events and 1 p.m. track events. Sunday’s final set of events – the men’s and women’s 4×400 relay – will begin at 4:10 p.m.

For the Gustie women, ranked No. 10 in the latest USTFCCCA top 25 index, Birgen Nelson (Sr., Edina) is the top seed in the 60-hurdles, 60-meter, and 200-meter. Nelson’s 60-hurdles time of 8.35 is an NCAA Division III record. Her 60-meter time of 7.66 ranks eighth in Division III and her 200-meter time of 24.83 ranks 11th in the country.

Madi Kes (Jr., Jordan) has the 14th longest triple jump in Division III this season at 11.71 meters, while Megan Geraets (So., Mankato) has the 22nd best long jump at 5.54 meters. Annika Poe (Sr., Big Lake) ranks third in the country in the shot put with a school record mark of 14.55 meters.

On the men’s side, Tyler Smith (So., Norwood Young America) owns the top 800-meter time in the MIAC at 1:56.40. Tucker Wallin (Sr., Red Wing) is ranked first in the conference in the 1000-meter with a time of 2:31.36. And Josh Beiswanger (Sr., Mankato) is the top seed in the weight throw with a top mark of 16.72 meters.
