BLAINE, Minn. — The Gusties added another victory to their winning streak, rolling to a 4-1 road win over Bethel Friday night.
For the first time all season, the Gusties found themselves trailing their opponents, as Bethel scored an early goal to take a 1-0 lead in the first period. The Royals would hold their lead for the first 15 minutes, before Brooke Power (Jr., Lakeville) would even the score in the second.
The Gusties would add two more goals before the end of the second frame, one from Molly McHugh (Sr., Minnetonka) and another from Lily Mortenson (Fy., Champlin, Minn.). Mortenson would add one more for good measure in the third period, earning her first career multi-goal game, and sealing the victory for the Gusties at a final 4-1.
Katie McCoy (Sr., Grafton, Wis.) made 12 saves in her seventh victory of the season, while her counterpart Anna Hanson made 38, including 15 in the second period. Hailey Holland (Sr., Aberdeen, S.D.) shared the team lead in shots with Emily Olson (Sr., Delano), as both players put six on net. Olson also added an assist on Power’s goal to build her team lead to seven, tied with Kayla Vrieze (Sr., Eagan) who added a helper on McHugh’s tally.
The Gusties, now 7-0 and 3-0 in the MIAC, host Bethel for the second game of the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. The Gusties will also be hosting a mental health awareness event sponsored by Sophie’s Squad at the 2 p.m. match-up.
