MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – For the third straight day, the Gustavus men’s swim & dive team controls the lead at the MIAC Championships, now with a total of 646, which is more than 150 points higher than second-place St. Thomas. The Gustavus women have dropped to third place with 414 points but are within reach of St. Kate’s 467 points.
“It was a truly magical night,” Head Coach Jon Carlson said. “We’ve had people stepping up all over the place to score for us. We’re set up pretty well on the men’s side and the women will have to have an extraordinary performance tomorrow. I’m pretty excited to see how we finish up.”
Nolan Larson (Jr., West Des Moines, Iowa) had his second record-setting performance of the meet, winning the 200 free with a MIAC and meet record time of 1:38.12. Matt Allison (Jr., Grand Rapids) and Dutch Franko-Dynes (So., Minneapolis) finished right behind in 1:41.27 and 1:41.83, respectively, to earn All-Conference as well.
Josh Muntifering (Jr., Buffalo) took first in the 400 IM with an NCAA B qualifying time of 4:00.46. Logan Bican (Sr., Monticello) won the 1-meter dive with an NCAA A qualifying score of 497.05. The 200 free relay team also took first in 1:22.68.
Andrew Becker (Fy., Northfield) placed third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.90 and Dane Hudson (Fy., Eden Prairie) finished third in the 100 back at 52.57 as each earned All-Conference.
The women’s 200 free relay team took first with an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:35.21. Maddie Westendorp (Sr., Saint Michael) earned All-MIAC by taking second in the 100 breaststroke with an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:04.45. Ellen Hofstede (Fy., Hopkins) also earned All-Confernece with a third place finish in the 200 free at 1:52.17. Lillie Ortloff (So., Hutchinson) took eighth in the 100 butterfly in 59.42.
The final day of the MIAC Championships is Saturday with prelims at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
