SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus men’s hockey team is set for a weekend series with Saint John’s with playoff implications on the line. Friday’s contest will begin at 7:05 in Saint Peter while Saturday’s game will be at 7 p.m. in St. Cloud. The Gusties enter 10-8-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the MIAC, while the Johnnies are 8-8-5 overall and 5-3-4 in the league. Gustavus currently sits third in the conference with 22 points, while Saint John’s is fourth with 21. The playoff race is tight, as just five points separate the second place team (23) from the seventh place team (18).

The Series: Friday’s contest marks the 125th all-time contest between the Gusties and Johnnies with Gustavus leading the all-time series 64-50-10. The two teams last met on Feb. 16, 2019 with Saint John’s taking a 7-5 victory. The Johnnies have won the last three contests, with Gustavus’s most recent win coming on Feb. 16, 2018.
Scouting the Gusties: Gustavus is most recently coming off of a series split with Concordia. Through 21 games, Caleb Anderson continues to lead the Gusties with 29 points from 15 goals and 14 assists, with his total goals and points leading the MIAC. Connor Clemons adds 20 points on seven goals and 13 assists while Nick Klishko has 14 points with six goals and eight assists. The Gusties are first in the MIAC in goals per game with 3.19 as well as in power play percentage with a mark of 23.9%. Robbie Goor has made 16 starts in net with a .923 save percentage and is ranked second in the MIAC with a goals against average of 2.11.
Scouting the Johnnies: Saint John’s is coming off of a series split against St. Thomas last weekend. Through 21 games the Johnnies lead the conference in short-handed goals and are second in goals per game with 3.10. Kyle Wagner leads Saint John’s with 20 points from five goals and 15 assists. Brady Heppner has 19 points on seven goals and 12 assists while Auggie Moore has 17 points with seven goals and 10 assists. Andrew Lindgren has made 11 starts in net for the Johnnies with a .921 save percentage.
