SAINT PETER, Minn. – The No. 23 Gustavus women’s basketball team will travel to Macalester on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest. The Gusties enter 13-3 overall and 9-2 in the MIAC while the Scots are 1-15 overall and 0-11 in the league.
The Series: Saturday’s contest marks the 76th matchup between the two teams with Gustavus leading the series 65-10. The Black and Gold have been victorious in 10 straight contests, with Macalester’s last win coming on Jan. 6, 2014.
Scouting the Gusties: After dropping two straight, the Gusties have won a pair of games, most recently defeating Hamline 76-65 on Wednesday. Through 16 contests the Gusties average 73.1 points per game while allowing 58.3, marks which rank second and third in the MIAC, respectively. Caitlin Rorman has led the Gusties in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game, while Ava Gonsorowski follows closely behind her with 13.9. Both players are recently coming off career games, as Rorman posted a career-best 25 points in the team’s win over Augsburg Saturday, while Gonsorowski notched a career-high 29 against Hamline Wednesday. Paige Richert has also been a strong inside prescence for the Gusties, averaging 10.4 points per contest.
Scouting the Scots: Macalester comes into the contest most recently falling to St. Thomas 63-38 on Wednesday. The Scots average 57.3 points per contest, while allowing 73.9. Justine Barraza has been Macalester’s top threat thus far averaging 14.1 points, while Celine Sabbagh averages 10.8 to go along with 4.2 rebounds. Kate Sowerby has been a playmaker at guard for the Scots, dishing out 3.3 assists to go along with 6.0 points and 4.4 rebounds.
