ROME, Ga. – Gustavus women’s tennis singles ace Ginger Valentine dropped her first two matches Thursday at the ITA Cup. Valentine opened the day with a 6-4, 6-1 loss to No. 2 seed Serim Jin of Wesleyan (Conn.) and then lost 6-4, 6-4 to Miriam Gandham of Vassar in the consolation bracket.

“Ginger played her heart out in both matches today,” Assistant Coach Heidi Carlson said. “She had some great opportunities but her opponent always came up big. Everyone out here is so talented, so there are no easy matches. I’m proud of the effort she gave and she’s always learning. She’s already excited to play again tomorrow.”

Valentine plays the loser of Nicole Semenov of Chicago and Nina Mitrofanova of Southwestern (Texas) at 8 a.m. Friday.
