RAMSEY, Minn. – The No. 25-ranked Gustavus men’s golf team is in second place and one stroke off the lead after one round at the Twin Cities Classic. The Gusties posted a 294 (+6) Saturday at The Links at Northfork, one behind UW-Eau Claire.

Jacob Pedersen (So., Minnetonka) continued his hot play, carding a one-under 71 with three birdies and two bogies, and is tied for first. Khrystjan Petersen (Fy., Faribault) posting a season-low 72 and is tied for fifth. Ben Hauge (Sr., Ramsey) had three birdies but three doubles as well for a 75 and is tied for 18th. Max Ullan (Jr., Blaine) was the fourth Gustie to score with a 76 and is tied for 25th.

“It was a great start by the men today,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “Conditions were not that easy, but we got out of the gates well. It’s a very strong field, so to have two guys, JP and Khrystjan, in the top five is great. Elk River will present some different challenges tomorrow, they have very small greens, so wedge play and finding the fairway will be crucial. We look forward to the challenge and excited to compete again, as we know we can play even better.”

Round two is Sunday at Elk River Country Club.
