SAINT PETER, Minn. – After nearly three weeks away from competition, the Gustavus cross country teams are set to race Saturday at Carleton’s Running of the Cows. The men’s 8k race begins at 10:30 a.m. and the women’s 6k follows at 11:30.
In their last competition, both the Gustie men and women won the three-team Crown Invite on Aug. 31. The women posted five of the six fastest times, led by Kourtney Kulseth (Jr., New Richland) at 19:46.53. Tierney Winter (Sr., Waterville) took second and Carissa Vanderwal (Fy., Ortonville) placed third.
The women’s race Saturday features 13 teams, many ranked on the regional and national level – Bethel, Carleton, St. Scholastica, Concordia-Moorhead, Cornell, Gustavus, Hamline, Macalester, Minnesota State-Mankato, Minnesota, UW-La Crosse, UW-Superior, and Viterbo. The men’s race includes the same teams with the addition of Saint John’s, St. Thomas, and Willamette (Ore.).
Andrew Stumbo (Jr., Boone, Iowa) led the Gustie men at the Crown Invite, winning the race in 20:45.35. Garet Grant (So., Winona) took second and Jack Degonda (So., Marine on St. Croix) placed third.
In the latest USTFCCCA polls, the Gustie women are ranked fifth in the Central Region and the men are seventh.
