HASTINGS, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Division III Classic, played at Emerald Greens on Saturday and Sunday, posting a two-round 317-310-627. The second round 310 is the tied for the 10th best 18-hole total in program history.
Erin Ericson (So., Onalaska, Wis.) captured her first career medalist honor, carding a three-over 75-72-147 to win the field of 90 golfers. Ericson is the first Gustie to win a tournament since Morgan Bleyhl and McKenzie Swenson shared medalist honors at the 2017 Georgianni Blugold Invite. Ericson’s 147 is also tied for the second lowest 36-hole total in program history, one stroke behind Kelli Groff’s record of 146.
“Emerald Greens did a fantastic job in hosting their first ever college tournament,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “We posted our lowest one-day total in about eight years. Obviously, Erin had a great tournament, she was our first medalist in a couple years.”
Emily Kratz (So., Edina) tallied her third career top-10, tying for eighth with a 79-75-154. Sydney Regalado (So., Rosemount) tied for 17th at 78-80-158 and Laurel Ward (Fy., Bozeman, Mt.) wrapped up the Gustie scoring at 85-83-168, tying for 48th.
“Emily had another really good round today, finishing tied for eighth,” Moe said. “Sydney also played solid, another good tournament for her. A few things we need to work on as we prepare for our tournament at the Wilds next weekend, hosted by St. Kate’s. But overall, very pleased with our effort and the results. This was a great field, and will give you an idea of the level of competition as our conference prepares the host our championship in two weeks.”
Carleton won the event with a 618, while St. Kate’s finished second at 620 and Bethel in third at 622.
Gustavus next competes at the St. Kate’s Invitational on Saturday in Sunday in Prior Lake.
