HASTINGS, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s golf team Saturday started the Division III Classic with a first round 317 (+29) and sit in a tie for third place. St. Catherine leads the field at 311 and Bethel is in second, one stroke ahead of the Gusties at 316.

Erin Ericson (So., Onalaska, Wis.) carded three birdies en route to a three-over 75 and is tied for second place on the leaderboard. Sydney Regalado (So., Rosemount) is tied for ninth at 78 and was able to convert a pair of birdies. Emily Kratz (So., Edina) is one stroke behind at 79 and is tied for 13th. Laurel Ward (So., Bozeman, Mt.) was the fourth Gusties to score with an 85.

“We had a decent day today,” Head Coach Scott Moe said. “Erin had a great round, had it to two under at one point and 75 was solid. Syd and Emily posted good scores as well. Looking for everyone to finally put it all together tomorrow. I think we left a few shots out there, but not too many today. We played the course quite a bit longer than normal, and with the wet conditions, it was long. Emerald Greens did a fantastic job in having the course ready, and for our first college event at that venue, I was very pleased. Looking forward to the final round tomorrow. Another event with a very strong field.”

Katie Engelking of Bethel leads the field of 90 golfers with a first round 73.

The Division III Classic concludes Sunday at Emerald Greens.
