ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Gustavus women’s golf team finished up play at the WashU Invite on Sunday. The Gusties, who scored 322 on day one, scored a 324 on day two to take on home ninth place honors. Carleton won the event with a 598.

“Although we shot about the same score today, several other teams turned in some good scores and we weren’t able to hold our position,” said assistant coach Randall Stuckey. “Competing in a competitive tournament so early is a great opportunity to see where we are at as a team. We need to focus on our short game including approach shots, chips around the green, and putting. Those items usually improve as the season progresses. The team is hungry to participate again next week. Very proud of the score Kennedy [Sommerfeld] (Sr., Litchfield, Minn.) as she was playing as an individual, which is always difficult.”

Emily Kratz (Fy., Edina, Minn.) was solid on day two, carding a team-low 77 into a tie for 27th with fellow teammate Ellie Brandt (Sr., Wayzata, Minn.)  who shot a 79 on the day. Sommerfeld and Sydney Regalado (Fy., Rosemount, Minn.) and rounded out the top four on two day carding scores of 78 and 82 respectively while Morgan Bleyhl (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) and Erin Ericson (Fy., Onalaska, Wis.) each scored 86.

The Gusties will be back in action on Saturday where will participate in the Illinois Wesleyan Invite in Normal, Ill.
