Women’s Hockey Loses MIAC Semifinal to St. Thomas

The Gustavus women’s hockey team lost to St. Thomas 4-0 in the MIAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s hockey team lost to St. Thomas 4-0 in the MIAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Gusties fall to 16-6-5 overall.

The two teams played even for nearly all of the first period until the Tommies took a 1-0 lead at the 16:48 mark.

The Gusties and Tommies then played scoreless for over 25 minutes until St. Thomas struck again scoring 2:40 into the third period. Less than six minutes later the Tommies capitalized on a Gustavus penalty with a power play goal to extend their lead to 3-0. Less than a minute after that, at 9:13, St. Thomas scored their fourth goal of the contest to put the game out of reach.

Amanda DiNella (Sr., Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.)  got the start in net for Gustavus and made 21 saves while allowing four goals in the loss.

The Gusties will now await the release of the DIII Women’s Hockey Championship bracket.
